On the morning of the 16th, Lhasa's first undercut tunnel—the "Lhasa Binhe Road Undercut Tunnel"—was fully capped. The tunnel has a total length of 1,120 m, with two-way four-lane configuration, a design speed of 30 km/h, and a structural service life of 100 years. The construction of the Lhasa Binhe Road Tunnel will enhance the city's east-west traffic supply capacity and is of great significance for alleviating traffic pressure in Lhasa.

On the morning of January 16, Lhasa's first undercut tunnel—the "Lhasa Binhe Road Undercut Tunnel"—was fully capped, providing important assurance for the tunnel's smooth opening to traffic.

It is understood that the tunnel is constructed by CCCC First Highway Engineering Group Co., Ltd. It is located on the north bank of the Lhasa River, closely following the Lhasa River embankment, and passes beneath the Sichuan-Tibet and Qinghai-Tibet Highway Monument to the backfilled plot on the west side of Sun Island. With a total length of 1,120 m, two-way four-lane configuration, a design speed of 30 km/h, and a structural service life of 100 years, it is an important road for alleviating east-west traffic pressure in Lhasa.

According to reports, the Lhasa Binhe Road Tunnel is a key project of the Lhasa Binhe Road project. The tunnel section lies in sandy gravel strata. Because it is adjacent to the Lhasa River, water seepage is severe and construction conditions are extremely poor. In addition, the original inner river of the Lhasa River crosses above the designed tunnel, and the tunnel foundation pit excavation phase coincided with the rainy season, further increasing the difficulty of project construction. To this end, the project department, in combination with on-site working conditions and construction schedule requirements, adopted a construction method using support piles combined with high-pressure jet grouting piles for foundation pit support. During more than a year of construction, it successively overcame many unfavorable factors such as complex site conditions, high construction difficulty, and complex surrounding environment, actively coordinated all parties to solve technical problems, and finally successfully completed the capping of the frame main structure, laying a solid foundation for the full completion of the Binhe Road project.

In addition, during the implementation of the project, priority was given to hiring more than 200 local skilled workers and laborers and more than 80 machines, effectively helping farmers and herdsmen find employment and increase income.

"During project construction, we attached great importance to protecting the local ecological environment. In addition to erecting enclosures, covering bare soil, and regularly sprinkling water to suppress dust, we also reasonably arranged the operating hours of large machinery to reduce noise pollution, and after completion of construction we strive to restore the natural ecology to its original appearance. At the same time, underground pipelines are used to bring wires, water pipes, and other utilities underground, improving the 'spider web' phenomenon along both sides of the Lhasa River," said the person in charge of the project department.

It is reported that the construction of the Lhasa Binhe Road Tunnel will enhance the city's east-west traffic supply capacity and is of great significance for alleviating traffic pressure in Lhasa. At the same time, in accordance with the characteristic spatial plan along the Lhasa River, the Lhasa Binhe Road Tunnel is integrated with the Lhasa River landscape renovation project, forming a riverside ecological landscape slow-traffic corridor that combines transportation and recreational functions.
