Recently, as the shield machine "Jingye No. 7-3" broke through the hoisting shaft at Higher Education Mega Center South Station, the left-line tunnel of the shield-driven section from the intermediate ventilation shaft between Higher Education Mega Center South Station and Shenjing Station to the hoisting shaft at Higher Education Mega Center South Station achieved twin-tunnel breakthrough, marking the first shield-driven section of Guangzhou Metro Line 7 Phase II to achieve bidirectional breakthrough.

Phase II of Line 7 runs from Higher Education Mega Center South Station to Shui Xi Bei Station, with a total length of about 22 kilometers. The left-line tunnel of the section from the intermediate ventilation shaft between Higher Education Mega Center South Station and Shenjing Station to the hoisting shaft is 799 meters long. After launching from the intermediate ventilation shaft in August 2020, the shield machine successively passed beneath major arterial roads such as North Road of South China University of Technology and Zhonghuan East Road. At the same time, because part of the main line of the tunnel passes through muddy silty fine sand layers, the shield construction process imposed higher requirements on surface stability control. After fully considering the stratum characteristics, the metro builders identified construction risks in advance, continuously optimized the construction technical plan according to actual construction conditions, adjusted shield tunneling parameters, and reasonably determined the ratio of synchronous grouting. At the same time, advanced geological radar detection was used for prediction and pre-reinforcement, and detection data and shield tunneling parameters were used to guide secondary grouting in real time, ensuring adequate safeguard measures.

To better complete the construction task and ensure tunnel construction quality, the metro builders of China Railway Guangzhou Engineering Group Co., Ltd., the construction unit, relied on BIM technology (BIM is building information modeling technology, a data-based tool applied to engineering design, construction, and management, and a computer-aided design tool mainly based on 3D graphics, object-oriented, and related to architecture). During the shield launching stage, by simulating the angular deviation between the shield launching attitude and the design axis, they verified the feasibility of the shield's split launching and secant entry scheme, providing strong technical support for shield launching on small-radius and large-gradient alignments (the conventional shield launching gradient is ±1.5–2‰, while this shield launching gradient reached +15‰).

As of now, the civil engineering works of the line have cumulatively completed 26%; all 11 stations are under civil construction; among the 11 sections, 6 are under civil construction and the remaining 5 are under pre-construction preparation. The Jitang Depot is under pre-construction preparation.
