Su Quanke, member of the CPPCC National Committee and chief engineer of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, gave an interview on the 4th, discussing the incident during the Spring Festival when heavy fog stranded a large number of vehicles and tourists on Hainan Island.
Su Quanke stated that building a cross-sea bridge over the Qiongzhou Strait in Hainan poses great technical challenges, even more difficult than the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. “One of the biggest difficulties is the sea trench in the middle and the deeper seawater; the second is the deeper geological overburden; and the third is the harsher natural environment, including wind factors. But I believe that in the construction of cross-sea passages, whether bridges or tunnels, we will be able to solve these technical problems in the future.”
