On February 6, the right tube of the Meihuashan Tunnel, a controlling project of the highway from Wulong Village to Wenyuan Village in Shanghang on National Highway 358, was successfully holed through.

The Meihuashan Tunnel has a total length of 496 meters, including 495 meters for the right tube and 497 meters for the left tube. The geology is complex, construction is difficult, and technical requirements are high. Since construction began, all participating units have strictly implemented the “Nine Provisions on Tunnel Construction Safety,” strengthened control over tunnel construction throughout the entire process, adhered to the attitude of “high standards, strict requirements, zero tolerance,” and strengthened quality and safety control of tunnel construction to ensure the smooth implementation of the project. The project is expected to open to traffic before June 2018. At that time, it will effectively improve existing traffic conditions, ease traffic pressure in the Gutian scenic area, and be of great significance to accelerating the development of the Gutian tourism industry.
