On January 25, Nanjing experienced its second heavy snowstorm of the new year. On the same day, the D2 bid section of the Yangtze River Fifth Bridge, a key construction project in Nanjing undertaken by the Second Company of China Railway Fourth Bureau Group, successfully drove the first pile in the Jiangbei section, marking the official commencement of land works for the Jiangbei section of the bridge.
The Nanjing Yangtze River Fifth Bridge is a crossing of National Highway 205 and National Highway 312, and also an important part of the Ring Road in Nanjing's "high-speed expressway system". The project route starts at Wuli Bridge in Pukou, crosses the Yangtze River in a southeast direction, passes through Meizizhou and under the Jiajiang River, and then connects to the already-built Youth Olympic Axis underground project (tunnel project) on the south bank. The total length of the route is about 10.3 kilometers, including the main bridge over the river, north and south approach bridges, bridge over the embankment, connecting works, and tunnel works.
The D2 bid section of the Yangtze River Fifth Bridge connecting works undertaken by the Second Company of China Railway Fourth Bureau Group has a main route length of 2.171 kilometers. The route runs from north to south in the form of an elevated bridge plus ground auxiliary roads, crossing the Nannong River, Nannong Road (Huigu Road), the planned Wangeng River, and Linjiang Road (Hengjiang Avenue) at once, with a turbine-type interchange set up at Linjiang Road, and the endpoint connects to the bridge over the embankment and Binjiang Avenue.
To ensure the project starts construction on schedule within the specified milestones, all builders of the Nanjing Fifth Bridge Project Management Department of the Second Company of China Railway Fourth Bureau Group, since entering the site quickly on December 4 last year, have adhered to the construction philosophy of "promoting craftsmanship and building the Yangtze River Fifth Bridge". They have fully mobilized elite forces to enter the site, scientifically and reasonably planned the construction of the management department's camp, steel processing yard, and mixing station, rigorously compiled effective construction plans, and overcome the challenges of a tight schedule set by the owner, strong winds near the Yangtze River, and continuous heavy snowstorms in Nanjing since the new year. The freezing cold directly brought severe tests to the builders. All participating employees, undaunted by the severe cold and undeterred by difficulties, braved the rain and snow while ensuring the continuity and coherence of completing designated tasks each day. They also insisted on holding daily production meetings to report on each person's daily work completion, and held accountable those who failed to complete tasks, greatly motivating the employees' enthusiasm for work. All work proceeded in sync and was strongly promoted. In just 10 days, they achieved rapid site entry, rapid accommodation, and rapid office conditions, setting a new record for entry speed across the entire Yangtze River Fifth Bridge project. They increased investment in manpower and materials, decomposed and pressurized daily production tasks at the project team and crew levels, formulated strict incentive and assessment mechanisms, and assessed and rewarded/punished the daily completion of temporary facilities such as the steel processing yard and mixing station, effectively ensuring that all processes were completed on schedule, providing strong organizational support for driving the first pile on time.
