Sato Kogyo Co., Ltd. announced on the 17th of this month that it has jointly developed a 3D profiling control and management system for mountain tunnels with two subsidiaries of Unisys. This system, named “Tunnel-meister,” acquires tunnel clearance data through 3D laser scanning, overlays it with design data, and displays the lining concrete thickness differentiated by color, generating a heat map for automatic assessment.

The new system can automatically generate a design model by reading the tunnel design cross-section and centerline alignment. Before pouring lining concrete, the 3D measurement data of the tunnel after excavation and concrete spraying is overlaid with the design model to calculate the required pouring volume. After the lining concrete is poured, overlaying the measurement data before and after pouring generates a heat map for automatic assessment of the lining thickness. Compared with the conventional method of measuring multiple cross-sections for each lining block, this system requires only a single laser scan over several tens of meters, greatly improving work efficiency and reducing the burden on workers.
