A new type of load-bearing structure composed of a prestressed anchor cable group and surrounding rock mass—the rock-anchored anchorage—is increasingly being applied in bridge engineering construction. The rock-anchored anchorage not only has strong bearing capacity, but compared with traditional gravity-type and tunnel-type anchorages, it also offers advantages such as smaller excavation volume, simpler construction technology, shorter construction period, and less environmental impact, showing broad application prospects. However, because its load-bearing mechanism is relatively complex and has not yet been clarified, rock-anchored anchorages are mainly designed based on experience, with essentially no codes to follow, which greatly increases bridge construction costs and safety risks. Therefore, in-depth research on the load-bearing mechanism and design theories and methods of rock-anchored anchorages is of great significance.
Recently, the team led by Researcher Chen Congxin of the Institute of Rock and Soil Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, starting from practical engineering challenges, systematically studied the anchoring mechanism and group anchor effect of prestressed anchor groups, as well as the interaction mechanism between the rock-anchored anchorage structure and slope rock mass, through field pull-out test research, numerical simulation research, field monitoring, and theoretical analysis. They proposed a bearing capacity evaluation method for rock-anchored anchorages and anchorage slopes and a design process for rock-anchored anchorages, and established the design theory and method for rock-anchored anchorages. The related technical achievements have been applied to the design and construction of rock-anchored anchorages in major projects such as the Xijiang Bridge of the Nanning-Guangzhou Railway and the Lancang River Bridge of the China-Myanmar Oil Pipeline, greatly reducing construction costs and improving the safety performance of engineering construction.
The related research results were published in journals in the geotechnical engineering field such as Chinese Journal of Rock Mechanics and Engineering and Rock and Soil Mechanics.
