On the 26th, the reporter learned from the Provincial Department of Transportation that Hainan Province will plan a medium- and long-term expressway network and begin advancing the construction of the '丰'-shaped expressways within the G98 ring, further optimizing Hainan's road network structure and serving the construction of a beautiful new Hainan.

It is understood that in 2013, the National Development and Reform Commission issued the National Highway Network Plan (2013-2030), incorporating Hainan Province's '田'-shaped expressway network entirely into the national expressway network, with a planned total mileage of 1,152 kilometers. Currently, 779 kilometers have been completed and opened to traffic. The remaining expressways—the middle line from Qiongzhong to Ledong, the horizontal line from Wanning to Yangpu, and the Wenchang to Bo'ao expressway—are under full-scale construction. It is expected that by the end of 2019, Hainan Province's '田'-shaped expressway network will be fully connected. In addition, at the end of the year, Hainan Province will also start construction of the Wuzhishan-Baoting-Haitang Bay expressway and the Baisha rapid exit road project, aiming to achieve the goal of 'expressways reaching every county' during the '13th Five-Year Plan' period.

To achieve transportation modernization and continuously meet the people's growing needs for a better life, Hainan Province will plan a medium- and long-term expressway network based on the existing road network. Among them, the first horizontal line of the '丰' shape is the G360 Wenchang to Lingao expressway, which mainly serves the economic and social development of northern Hainan and the Haichengwen area. Preliminary work on the project is currently underway, with the aim to start construction in 2018. The second horizontal line is the Wanning to Yangpu expressway under construction, which will be completed and opened to traffic in 2019. The third horizontal line mainly runs through four cities and counties—Lingshui, Baoting, Sanya, and Ledong—in the Greater Sanya tourism economic circle. Given that the project will involve ecologically sensitive areas, in order to effectively implement the concept of green development, the Provincial Department of Transportation is conducting further research and demonstration on the route alignment.
