On December 28, the Jinan Municipal Transport Commission announced that the Beiyuan Elevated Road West Extension project officially started that day! The construction period is 450 days, and the elevated road will have six lanes in both directions. Four ramps will be set up along the route, and it will pass under the Beijing-Shanghai High-Speed Railway. The project will also simultaneously build dedicated BRT lanes and connect with rail transit. After completion, Beiyuan Elevated Road and Gongye North Road will become Jinan's first east-west urban expressway and create the longest BRT corridor.
Construction period of 450 days, elevated road with six lanes in both directions
On December 28, the Jinan Municipal Transport Commission announced that the west extension of Beiyuan Elevated Road, which has drawn widespread public attention, officially started construction that day. In the future, Beiyuan Elevated Road will connect with the West Ring Expressway.
On the 15th of this month, the Jinan Public Resources Trading Network publicized the bid-winning information for the construction of the Beiyuan Street Expressway West Extension Project. The project starts from Kuangshan Interchange on Erhuan West Road in the east and ends at the planned North-South No. 3 Road in the west, with a total length of about 5.6 kilometers. Construction is divided into four sections, each with a construction period of 450 days.
The project will build new elevated expressways, ground-level expressways, ground roads, bridges, and interchanges, lay rainwater and sewage pipelines, and carry out civil engineering for water supply, gas, electricity, heating, telecommunications, weak current, and reclaimed water pipelines. It will simultaneously carry out greening, lighting, traffic facilities, river regulation, pedestrian crossings, and sponge city facilities.
Beiyuan Elevated Road - Gongye North Road Elevated Road will become Jinan's first expressway connecting to an expressway.
Four ramps, two entrances/exits, passing under the Beijing-Shanghai High-Speed Railway
The reporter noted that the Beiyuan Street West Extension Expressway will connect Beiyuan Elevated Road with the West Ring Expressway, passing through the main line of the Beijing-Shanghai High-Speed Railway along the way. The Beiyuan Street West Extension adopts a combination of elevated and ground-level expressways. East of Qilu Avenue, it continues the elevated form of Beiyuan Expressway; west of Qilu Avenue, it is a ground-level expressway.
In June this year, the second public announcement of the environmental impact assessment for the Beiyuan Street Expressway West Extension Project showed that the 3.4 kilometers from east of the Beijing-Shanghai High-Speed Railway main line to Erhuan West Road is an elevated expressway, with a six-lane elevated bridge in both directions and a width of 25.5 meters; the ground auxiliary road remains the current Qingdao Road, with a red line width of 70 meters.
In addition, the 2.2 kilometers from west of the Beijing-Shanghai High-Speed Railway main line to the Beijing-Taipei Expressway is a ground-level expressway, with a red line width of 70 meters, a six-lane main road in both directions, and four-lane auxiliary roads on both sides. The ground-level expressway section passes under the Beijing-Shanghai High-Speed Railway main line and connecting lines and the Beijing-Taipei Expressway. A new direct-connection + T-shaped interchange will be built to connect with the Beijing-Taipei Expressway, with a toll station of 6 entrances and 11 exits. To save land, the interchange is combined with a thermal power plant.
The reporter noted that the Beiyuan Street West Extension has a total of four ramps, from east to west: Dongying Road ramp, Zibo Road ramp, Qizhou Road ramp, and Qilu Avenue ramp. The two entrances/exits are the Beijing-Taipei Expressway entrance/exit and the Shun'an Road entrance/exit. The four ramps intersect with Qizhou Road, Tai'an Road, Zibo Road, and Weifang Road, respectively.
The Beiyuan Elevated Road West Extension will adopt the "elevated + expressway" form.
29-kilometer BRT corridor, intersecting with Line R1 and Line M3
The reporter learned from the Jinan Municipal Transport Commission that the Beiyuan Elevated Road West Extension has specially planned a medium-capacity traffic lane and will simultaneously build BRT, with a total of six BRT stations along the route, which will be connected to the Beiyuan BRT corridor in the future.
It is reported that the Gongye North Road, which opened to traffic at the end of October, has 17 BRT rapid transit stations along the entire line. At the Gongye North Road and Wangsheren stations of Rail Line R3, one-stop transfer between rail platforms and BRT platforms will be realized. According to Jinan's "three horizontal and five vertical" trolleybus plan, in the future, the Qingdao Road-Beiyuan Street-Gongye North Road corridor (Qizhou Road-Guodian Interchange) will have BRT, with a total length of 29 kilometers, becoming Jinan's longest BRT corridor.
According to the project planning map, Line R1 will cross Beiyuan Elevated Road along Qilu Avenue, and Line M3 will also turn left from Shun'an Road and extend westward along Beiyuan Elevated Road. That is to say, in the future, the Beiyuan Elevated Road West Extension will have two subway lines passing through, and the unique "rail transit + BRT" model will greatly enhance traffic capacity.
After the Beiyuan Elevated Road West Extension project is completed, the Beiyuan Street-Gongye North Expressway line will become Jinan's first east-west urban expressway. After completion, it will alleviate traffic pressure from Jingshi West Road to the Ring Expressway and facilitate east-west traffic.
Jia Yuliang, director of the Jinan Transport Commission, who once headed the Jinan Planning Bureau, said that the "high-speed and expressway integration" road network should serve the city's development framework, become an important link connecting the central urban area with regional centers and satellite towns, increase cross-regional long-distance travel speed, and achieve a one-hour rapid passage.
According to long-term planning, in the future, Yingxiongshan Interchange and Erhuan South Road will also connect with the Ring Expressway. Moreover, Erhuan West Road, Erhuan East Road, and Erhuan South Road will continue to grow on the existing basis and play a greater role.
