On December 23, the Quanzhou Municipal Government held a preliminary work meeting on the Donghai Passage, basically clarifying issues such as the technical scheme and route alignment of the Donghai Passage.
It is reported that the Donghai Passage starts at Shuanglong Road in Jinjiang, crosses the coastal avenue on the Jinjiang bank, the Jinjiang River, and the coastal avenue on the Quanzhou bank, and ends at Binhai Street in Quanzhou. It is proposed to be designed as an urban arterial road with six lanes in both directions and a length of about 4.235 km.
After completion, the passage will be an important component of the east-west urban traffic artery linking Jinjiang—Donghai—Taiwan Investment Zone, mainly serving east-west urban traffic connections in the Quanzhou Bay-ring core area. There will be no freight vehicles, and large vehicles will mainly be coaches and buses.
After the passage is completed, it will become an important express corridor connecting the Quanzhou Donghai, Jinjiang Xianshi and Xibin urban clusters, and will also be an important passage spanning both banks of the Jinjiang River, alleviating the bottleneck of cross-river traffic and reducing traffic pressure on the Jinjiang Bridge.

It is understood that the special meeting that day only confirmed that the Donghai Passage is to be built and preliminarily completed the comparison and selection of technical schemes, basically determining core issues such as the route alignment, width and the adoption of an undersea tunnel. Next, preliminary work will be carried out intensively, including detailed geological survey, preliminary design, project approval, and submission to the expert group of the Provincial Development and Reform Commission for review. In other words, up to now, the Donghai Passage project has only just begun, and it will take some time before important matters such as the start and completion dates and the construction period can be determined.
