As 2017 draws to a close, a grand event in the manufacturing industry adds festivity to Zhengzhou, a central city in China's central region, an important national comprehensive transportation hub, and a core city of the Central Plains Economic Zone. On December 21-22, the 2017 Annual Meeting of the Tunneling Machinery Branch of the China Construction Machinery Association and the Second First Member Congress grandly opened here, sounding the clarion call for the Tunneling Machinery Branch to enter 2018 with a new posture after a fruitful 2017. More than 150 participants attended this unprecedented grand gathering, including government leaders, leaders of the China Construction Machinery Association, heads of the Tunneling Machinery Branch, representatives of member units, entrepreneurs, and industry-related personnel. 　　The reason this 2017 Annual Meeting of the Tunneling Machinery Branch and the Second First Member Congress is called a grand gathering and praised as unprecedented is not only the large number of participants and rich content, but also the high attention from superior leaders. Leaders from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, local government, industry experts, and principal responsible persons of the association attended the meeting to provide guidance. After the host delivered a passionate opening speech, leaders from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the local government where the meeting was held, and the main leaders of the China Construction Machinery Association spoke successively. The important speeches of leaders at all levels enabled this meeting to gain a comprehensive understanding of the industry development situation from the macro, meso, and micro perspectives, benefiting all participants greatly. 　　Yu Ju, President of the Tunneling Machinery Branch of the China Construction Machinery Association, delivered a report titled "Stay True to the Original Aspiration, Forge Ahead, and Create a New Situation for the Development of China's Tunneling Machinery Industry." President Yu said that in the past five years, driven by the huge demand for tunnel construction machinery in domestic urban rail transit, water conservancy, railway and highway construction, a group of entrepreneurs with keen vision and entrepreneurial courage decisively invested. Through introduction, digestion, and innovation, they achieved leapfrog development and realized the explosive high-speed development of China's full-face tunnel boring machine industry. According to incomplete statistics, there are currently more than ten large-scale full-face tunnel boring machine manufacturers and nearly a hundred specialized supporting enterprises in China. The industry has over 700,000 square meters of plant area, nearly 600 sets of various large-scale special equipment, more than 1,500 R&D personnel, and an annual production capacity of over 500 units, plus a remanufacturing capacity of about 100 units per year. Over the past five years, the industry has produced more than 1,000 full-face tunnel boring machines of various types, basically meeting the equipment requirements for tunnel construction. Cumulative exports exceed 150 units, and Chinese-made tunnel equipment is increasingly recognized by global users. Next, the industry must stay true to its original aspiration, seize opportunities, meet challenges, and strive for greater victories. 　　Song Zhenhua, Secretary-General of the Tunneling Machinery Branch of the China Construction Machinery Association, presented the work summary of the secretariat. He said: Focusing on the branch's work, the secretariat has done a great deal of work in visiting member units, understanding industry conditions, improving information statistics and summarization, formulating standards, conducting enterprise production qualification reviews, co-organizing large-scale events, and enhancing the branch's media publicity and self-construction, making due contributions to the healthy development of the industry. In the new year, we should strive for further progress. 　　The meeting explained the plan for the second member congress, read the "Explanation on Amending the Branch Work Regulations," the "Proposal on Determining Candidates for Rotating President, Executive Vice President, Vice President, and Secretary-General" and related explanations, and the "Explanation on Adjusting Member Units and Council Units." The congress passed all proposals and legally elected the second branch council, vice president units, rotating president, executive vice president, and secretary-general. The newly elected rotating president Cao Wenhong, Deputy Director of Shanghai Tunnel Engineering & Rail Transit Design and Research Institute; the newly elected executive vice president Jiang Lin, Deputy Secretary-General of the China Construction Machinery Association; and the newly re-elected secretary-general Song Zhenhua of the Tunneling Machinery Branch of the China Construction Machinery Association delivered heartfelt speeches on behalf of the new branch and the elected members. 　　To address the new situations, new circumstances, and new problems facing the industry, the meeting conducted a comprehensive exchange on management, theory, and practice in the tunneling machinery industry. Enterprise leaders and experts delivered excellent professional reports from different perspectives, including Bu Rui, General Manager of the Tunnel Boring Equipment Branch of Northern Heavy Industries Group Co., Ltd.; Long Zhiyang, Researcher and Deputy Chief Engineer of Beijing China Coal Mine Engineering Co., Ltd.; Chen Qi, Deputy Director of the Research and Design Institute of Liaoning Sansen Industrial Co., Ltd.; Zhang Heng, Chairman of Shanghai Metro Shield Equipment Engineering Co., Ltd.; Wang Xuecheng, Deputy Director of the Tunneling Equipment Branch of Taiyuan Research Institute of China Coal Technology & Engineering Group Corp.; Cheng Yongliang, General Manager of China Railway Construction Heavy Industry Group Co., Ltd.; Tan Shunhui, Chairman of China Railway Engineering Equipment Group Co., Ltd.; and Yang Hui, Chief Engineer of CCCC Tianhe Mechanical Equipment Manufacturing Co., Ltd.
