On December 18, it was learned from the Chongqing Municipal Transport Commission that in the next three years, Chongqing will step up the upgrading and renovation of its ordinary trunk highway network and carry out 10,000 km of ordinary trunk highway reconstruction.
The Municipal Transport Commission explained that of the 10,000 km of ordinary trunk highway reconstruction, 3,000 km will involve ordinary national highways (including 1,000 km of upgrading), 4,000 km will involve ordinary provincial highways (including 1,000 km of upgrading), and 3,000 km will involve major connecting roads.
According to the Three-Year Action Plan for the Construction of Ordinary Trunk Highways in Chongqing, by 2020 the share of Class II and above national highways in Chongqing will rise to 90%, the share of Class III and above provincial highways will rise to 65%, all ordinary trunk highways will be asphalt-paved or hardened, the pavement rate of ordinary trunk highways will reach 100%, existing congested sections and bottleneck sections will be basically eliminated, and the traffic capacity and service level of the ordinary trunk highway network will be substantially improved.
Specifically, in 2018: Chongqing will reconstruct 3,400 km of ordinary trunk highways, including 1,000 km of national highways, 1,400 km of provincial highways, and 1,000 km of major connecting roads.
In 2019: Chongqing will reconstruct 3,300 km of ordinary trunk highways, including 1,000 km of national highways, 1,300 km of provincial highways, and 1,000 km of major connecting roads.
In 2020: Chongqing will reconstruct 3,300 km of ordinary trunk highways, including 1,000 km of national highways, 1,300 km of provincial highways, and 1,000 km of major connecting roads.
