On December 18, the Chongqing Municipal Transport Commission held a briefing. According to the Strategic Action Plan for Upgrading Transport Infrastructure Construction in Chongqing, by 2020 the city plans a total investment of 268.5 billion yuan to accelerate the construction of rural well-off roads, high-speed railways, expressways and ordinary trunk highways, build an international comprehensive transport hub, and lay a more solid foundation for securing a decisive victory in building a moderately prosperous society in all respects.
Specifically, from 2018 to 2020, Chongqing plans to invest 27.5 billion yuan, taking “bringing transport to villages and households and boosting targeted poverty alleviation”
as the overarching approach, and following the principle of “wide where appropriate, narrow where appropriate,” to advance rural well-off road construction in light of local conditions, focusing on roads for villagers' groups with more than 30 households (or more than 100 people) living in concentrated settlements.
By 2020, the city will start construction of 1,400 kilometers of high-speed railway, carry out preliminary work on 180 kilometers of projects, and complete investment of 81 billion yuan. The city's railway operating mileage will reach nearly 3,000 kilometers, including 380 kilometers of high-speed railway and 560 kilometers of fast railway, with railway network density reaching 350 kilometers per 10,000 square kilometers. It will accelerate the formation of a “mi”-shaped high-speed railway network and speed up the building of a national comprehensive railway hub.
By 2020, Chongqing will complete 1,000 kilometers of expressways, start construction on 1,000 kilometers of expressways, carry out preliminary work on 1,000 kilometers, and complete total investment of about 100 billion yuan. The city's expressway mileage open to traffic will reach 3,800 kilometers, expressway network density will reach 4.6 kilometers per 100 square kilometers, and the coverage rate of townships by expressways will reach 75%. Interprovincial corridors will increase to 27, and neighboring cities and counties between Chongqing and surrounding provinces will be conveniently connected by expressway.
In addition, during 2018-2020, Chongqing will implement the upgrading of 10,000 kilometers of ordinary trunk highways, with a total investment of 60 billion yuan.
