On December 15, the first tunnel passing through the core scenic area of Wudang Mountain on the Wuhan-Shiyan high-speed railway under construction was successfully completed. After the Han-Shi high-speed railway opens, high-speed trains traveling at 300 km/h will shuttle through the Wudang Mountains.

Wudang Mountain Scenic Area, with its many ancient building complexes such as the Golden Summit, Lingxiao Palace, and Tianzhu Peak, as well as its natural landscapes, is a sacred site of Taoism in China. The Hujia Tunnel, which passes through the core scenic area of Wudang Mountain, has a total length of 850 meters and is located beneath the two scenic spots of Haohan Slope and Huilongguan, with a vertical distance of only about 100 meters. The tunnel also crosses under the tourist road of the Wudang Mountain core scenic area and is about 6 kilometers in a straight line from the Golden Summit Scenic Area.

Lin Jiankui, construction manager of the China Railway Seventh Group project department responsible for tunnel construction, said that although the Hujia Tunnel is not long, the requirements for construction safety and ecological protection are high. In addition, due to fractured rock layers and complex geology, the construction team adopted techniques such as rapid excavation and rapid support. At the same time, they abandoned the construction of access roads and used primitive mule and horse teams to transport sand, gravel, and small machinery to reduce the impact on the scenic area's environment. "After 14 months of intensive construction, the tunnel was successfully completed."

According to reports, the Wudang Mountain bridge and tunnel group of the Han-Shi high-speed railway undertaken by China Railway Seventh Group also includes projects such as the Xiaojiaogou Tunnel and the Tiejiaogou Tunnel. The total length of the tunnel group is 8.8 kilometers, with a total construction period of 36 months, and it is expected to be fully completed by June next year.

The 391.5-kilometer Han-Shi high-speed railway is an important component of the Wuhan-Xi'an high-speed railway and is planned to be completed and opened to traffic by the end of 2019.
