Taiyuan's rail transit network plan consists of 8 lines with a total length of 266.2 kilometers. Among them, Lines 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 are central urban area lines, while Lines 7 and 8 are suburban lines. In October, Taiyuan Metro Line 3, Line 1 Phase I, and Line 2 Phase II will successively start engineering surveys as preliminary preparation for formal construction.
According to the plan, Taiyuan aims to basically complete Line 2, Line 3, and Line 1 Phase I during the "13th Five-Year Plan" period, forming a "中"-shaped skeleton with "combined ring radiating in all directions." Among them, Line 2 Phase I is the first metro line to start construction, and its progress has attracted much attention. According to relevant personnel from Taiyuan Rail Transit Development Co., Ltd., as of now, the civil engineering part of the first-opened section, Zhongxin Street West Station, has been completed; the main structures of three stations—Huazhang Street Station, South Central Ring Street Station, and Xuefu Street Station—have been completed; 14 stations—Renmin South Road Station, Tongda Street Station, Kangning Street Station, Jiajie Station, Jinyang Street Station, Changfeng Street Station, Wangcun South Street Station, Shuangta West Street Station, South Inner Ring Street Station, Dananmen Station, Jihuying Station, Kuangji Station, Small Commodity Market Station, and Xijianhe Station—have been excavated to the base and are undergoing main structure construction; the enclosure structures of three stations—Zhonglou Street Station, Fuxi Street Station, and Beida Street Station—have been completed, and foundation pit excavation is underway; Longcheng Street West Station is undergoing enclosure structure construction; the tunnel from Zhongxin Street West Station to Jinyang Street Station has been excavated 1,061 meters, with the left line already through.
According to previously announced bidding information, Metro Line 3 starts from Chaicun in the north, passes through Heping Road and turns into South Central Ring Street, crosses the Fen River, then goes via Jinyang Street to Taiyuan South Station and ends at Dongfeng Village. The line is about 30.523 kilometers long with 25 stations, including 9 transfer stations, and is entirely underground. The line includes one depot, one parking lot, and two main substations (shared with Line 1). The engineering survey for Metro Line 3 will be conducted from October 1 to November 9, mainly involving Jiancaoping District, Wanbailin District, Jinyuan District, and Xiaodian District, primarily located on Heping Road (Xinghua West Street–South Central Ring Street), South Central Ring Street (Jinci Road–Binhe West Road), and Jinyang Street (Binhe East Road–Jinyang Street North Fourth Alley). During the survey construction along the route, temporary enclosures will be set up, occupying roads or sidewalks, with each enclosure lasting one to two days. The engineering survey for Line 1 Phase I will be conducted from October 3 to November 23, mainly involving Wanbailin District, Yingze District, and Xiaodian District. The route passes through Xikuang Street (Baijiazhuang Intersection–Yingze West Street Intersection), Yingze West Street, Yingze Street, Haojiagou Street (Shuangta North Road–East Central Ring Road), and East Central Ring Road (Haojiagou Street–Changfeng East Street). During the survey construction along the route, temporary enclosures will be set up, occupying roads or sidewalks. The engineering survey for Line 2 Phase II will be conducted from October 15 to December 5, requiring lane occupation on Hengshan Road and Xinlan Road with temporary enclosures.
