At 09:18 on July 10, 2017, after more than a year of effort and struggle, the Xingguanshan Tunnel undertaken by the Kunming Hub Railway Project Department of the Fifth Engineering Co., Ltd. of China Railway 11th Bureau Group was successfully holed through along its entire length. The Xingguanshan Tunnel is the last tunnel of the Kunming Hub project and also the last tunnel of the Yungui Railway's link into the Kunming Hub. As a major and difficult controlling works of the Kunming Hub project, the successful holing-through of the entire tunnel marks another breakthrough in a difficult works for the Kunming Hub project and also lays a solid foundation for the opening of the second line added to the Nanning–Kunming Railway!
The Xingguanshan Tunnel lies in a low and medium mountain landform, at the transition zone between the Kunming Basin and the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau. The terrain is highly undulating, with an average ground elevation of 1,940 meters. The tunnel is a jointly built tunnel on the section of the second line added between Wangjiaying West and Kunming East and the Wangjiaying container connecting line; it is a double-track tunnel with a total length of 988 meters, including 100 m of Class IV surrounding rock and 888 m of Class V surrounding rock. Since tunnel construction began in December 2015, the Xingguanshan Tunnel has faced problems such as broken surrounding rock, construction adjacent to an existing line, a minimum cover depth of less than 4 meters, and extremely high safety risks. During construction, the project department organized rationally, formulated a rigorous construction plan, and adopted construction measures such as "advance pipe forepoling, strict grouting, short advance, weak blasting, strong support, rapid sealing, frequent measurement, and timely lining," scientifically organizing construction and effectively ensuring project quality. During excavation, mechanical excavation was used in the shallow-cover section, and controlled blasting was used throughout, successfully overcoming difficulties such as broken surrounding rock, proximity to the existing line, and shallow cover depth, ensuring normal tunnel construction and ultimately completing the tunnel with high quality, high efficiency, safety, and smoothness. The transverse holing-through error of the tunnel was 3 millimeters, and the elevation error was only 1 millimeter.
The Kunming Hub project section managed by the Fifth Company of the 11th Bureau is 23 km long and includes the station reconstruction works of Wangjiaying West Station, Yangbao Station, and Jinmacun Station, the Xingguanshan Tunnel, the Maliang River Grand Bridge, the Xiaoxincun connecting line grand bridge, and other major and difficult works. At present, the Kunming Hub project has completed key works such as the station reconstruction works of Wangjiaying West Station and Yangbao Station, the Xingguanshan Tunnel, and the Maliang River Grand Bridge. The remaining Xiaoxincun connecting line grand bridge is expected to be completed smoothly by the end of the year, and the Jinma Station reconstruction works are also expected to be fully carried out by the end of the year.
