Recently, the "Special Research Class on Urban Underground Utility Tunnels and Sponge City Construction," commissioned by the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee and hosted by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, concluded in Xiamen, Fujian Province. Ni Hong, Vice Minister of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, attended the trainee symposium and closing ceremony and presented completion certificates to the trainees. Miao Chengchao, Vice Mayor of Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, spoke on behalf of the trainees.
Ni Hong pointed out that it is necessary to earnestly study and comprehend the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping's series of important speeches on urban planning, construction, and management, implement the requirements of the Central Urban Work Conference, respect laws and science, seek truth from facts, adapt measures to local conditions, and solidly advance work such as urban underground utility tunnels and sponge city construction.
Ni Hong stated that urban planning, construction, and management involve many tasks and heavy responsibilities. Xiamen has many good practices in areas such as the "integration of multiple plans," housing security, garbage classification, green travel, utility tunnels, sponge city construction, and the renovation of old residential communities, which are worth learning from. He hopes the mayors will be courageous in innovation, precise and meticulous, and plan, construct, and manage cities well for the people.
This special research class ran from June 14 to 23 and was the 107th mayor research class hosted by the National Mayor Training Institute. The trainees were mainly 38 municipal (prefecture, autonomous prefecture, league) Party committee and government officials in charge, as well as officials in charge of divisions and cities of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, from across the country.
