After 50 hours of continuous operation, as various data were transmitted in real time to the chief designer, the chief designer finally showed his long-lost smile.
“The rotary drilling rig power head is a key component for drilling. Improving the power head's adaptability to different geological conditions will greatly expand the application range of rotary drilling rigs, requiring a wide range of speed and torque while also ensuring low noise and high reliability.” Early on, Zhu Jianxin, Dean of the Sunward Underground Engineering Research Institute, proposed this concept.
Currently, rotary drilling power heads on the market basically adopt the configuration of an ordinary two-stage reducer + axial piston high-speed motor. Their speed range is narrow, with a maximum/minimum speed ratio of 2.6 to 3 times. Limited by the maximum speed of the axial motor, the maximum rotary speed is less than 35 rpm, resulting in narrow adaptability and difficulty in throwing soil from the drilling bucket. When high-speed soil throwing is required, it is necessary to add a third motor for soil throwing or adopt a two-speed switching reducer, which increases the complexity of both mechanism and operation.
After repeated comparison of various schemes, the power head of the Sunward rotary drilling rig finally selected a large-displacement motor plus a single-stage reducer, directly controlling the motor displacement through an electronic control program to achieve stepless change from low-medium speed high-torque drilling to high-speed low-torque soil throwing.
The new power head has the following features:
1. Environmentally friendly operation: The new power head reduces operating noise by more than 10 dB;
2. Wide speed range: Realizes stepless speed control of the power head from 6 to 75 rpm;
3. Long service life: The reducer operating speed is reduced from 4500 rpm to 2000 rpm, greatly improving the service life of the reducer;
4. Simple control: Directly control the power head motor displacement to change the power head speed.
The successful launch of the new power head for Sunward rotary drilling rigs is a revolutionary innovation in rotary drilling rig power heads and will lead the future development direction of rotary drilling rig power heads.
