Workers Rush to Reinforce Exposed Pile Foundations of Viaduct Scoured by Floods

On June 27, a reporter learned from Jiangxi Provincial Expressway Group that on the night of June 25, flash floods had scoured away the foundation of a viaduct pier within Yifeng County along the Daqing-Guangzhou Expressway, exposing the pile foundations. As of now, the hidden danger has been eliminated, and the reinforcement work is expected to be fully completed by the afternoon of June 28.
It is understood that on the evening of June 25, the Nanchang West Management Center of Jiangxi Provincial Expressway Group discovered that the Dianzhan Bridge, located within Yifeng County along the Daqing-Guangzhou Expressway, had been scoured by floodwaters, causing part of the pile foundations of Pier No. 5 to be exposed. If not addressed promptly, this would affect the safety of the bridge.
In the early hours of June 26, the Nanchang West Management Center mobilized excavators, sandbags, and other equipment and emergency supplies overnight to the site and carried out drainage work. After two hours of operation, maintenance personnel used an excavator to dig a channel 1 meter wide and over 20 meters long, successfully diverting the floodwaters.
Due to the steep terrain, other mechanical equipment could not operate, so the maintenance department adopted manual work to fill sandbags and build earth cofferdams around the pile foundations. To ensure the pile foundations were solid, maintenance personnel brought in a concrete pump truck and, using its delivery boom from the viaduct deck over 30 meters high, poured early-strength concrete from top to bottom to reinforce the pile foundations.
Up to now, 30 cubic meters of concrete have been poured. The entire pile foundation reinforcement is expected to use over 80 cubic meters, poured in layers, and the reinforcement work is expected to be fully completed by the afternoon of June 28.
