Recently, construction officially began on the underground utility tunnel in the park area of the municipal infrastructure project for the 2019 Beijing International Horticultural Exhibition (hereinafter referred to as the Beijing Expo), kicking off the comprehensive infrastructure construction of the Beijing Expo park and marking the Expo's entry into the full-scale construction phase.

It is understood that the underground utility tunnel project in the Beijing Expo park has a total length of 3.34 kilometers and is laid along six main roads including Park South Road. It includes one main tunnel and five branch tunnels, connected to and supporting the surrounding underground pipelines. According to Xu Hong, Director of the Overall Planning Department of the Beijing International Horticultural Exhibition Coordination Bureau, more than a dozen pipelines in the park have been "housed together" in a single compartment, and maintenance personnel can enter the underground tunnel directly from the entrance to carry out work when inspecting and repairing. In addition, if an abnormal situation occurs suddenly in the underground pipelines in the park, the operation control center can collect relevant data within seconds and issue an alarm, pinpointing the location of the abnormal pipeline.

At the construction site, the original fish pond water had been pumped dry, and it is planned to excavate 10,000 cubic meters of soil per day to form the planned core landscape area, "Guirui Lake." According to the construction contractor, the 10,000 cubic meters of soil will be transported several hundred meters away and piled up on site to form the Tiantian Mountain. By the end of March, the main bodies of the planned Tiantian Mountain and Guirui Lake will be presented to the public. It is expected that by the end of 2018, the Beijing Expo park will be completed and delivered for exhibition layout.
