Up to now, the main construction contents of the project include tower foundation construction for construction power lines, earthwork excavation for the right bank dam access road, earthwork excavation for the phase I diversion channel project, phase I cofferdam filling, and earthwork filling for the Pizhai resettlement area in Gaopi Town. Among them, the cutoff wall site of the phase I cofferdam of the Hanjiang Gaopo Water Conservancy Hub is still under construction and is scheduled to be completed before the Spring Festival.

The typical geological conditions at the cofferdam cutoff wall project site are as follows: from 0 to 7 meters below ground is miscellaneous fill containing a large amount of stones; below 7 meters is mainly sand and gravel; each cutoff wall panel needs to penetrate at least 1.5 meters into strongly weathered rock. The relatively economical and efficient operation scheme for the cofferdam cutoff wall is to use a hydraulic grab for construction. However, the miscellaneous fill contains a large amount of mountain stones, the sand and gravel are relatively dense, and the weathered rock layer is also relatively hard. Therefore, the difficulties that may be faced in hydraulic grab construction include: due to the relatively difficult geological conditions, the wear of bucket teeth and tooth holders may be relatively high; when excavating the rock layer, several impacts are required to grab 15-20 cm, which brings great trouble to the construction.

In the initial stage of the cofferdam cutoff wall construction, the contractor used 4 hydraulic grabs, including one Bauer GB 34 hydraulic grab. When encountering large stones and weathered rock layers, the overall construction progress was relatively slow, and the effect of other construction measures was relatively limited. According to the schedule requirements, the contractor needs to complete 208 trench sections that are 6-6.5 meters long, 600 mm wide, and 24-34 meters deep before the Spring Festival. As the Spring Festival is approaching, the schedule is relatively tight. In order to improve construction efficiency and ensure the schedule, more than 20 days after the start of construction, Guangdong YSD Engineering Construction Co., Ltd. transported a newly purchased Bauer GB 60 hydraulic grab to the construction site.

After the Bauer GB 60 hydraulic grab entered the site, it could complete the trench to the design depth in one pass without other measures, saving time, simplifying the trenching steps, and greatly improving construction efficiency. Construction site data shows that the Bauer GB 60 hydraulic grab started trenching on the afternoon of December 19, 2016, and could complete one trench section in about 8-10 hours. As of January 12, 2017, the Bauer GB 60 hydraulic grab had completed 36 trench sections, and the site had completed a total of 146 trench sections.

The addition of the Bauer GB 60 hydraulic grab provided a reliable guarantee for the smooth progress of the project. At the same time, Bauer technical personnel who entered the site together with the Bauer GB 60 hydraulic grab stayed on site to guide and train, helping the customer's operators quickly master the equipment's performance, and responded at any time to solve difficult problems in the use of the equipment for the customer, providing reliable technical support for the smooth progress of the project.

The Bauer GB 60 hydraulic grab is a relatively mature product of Bauer. It is equipped with two 30-ton synchronous winches, and its lifting and lowering speeds are very fast. The maximum trenching depth is 80 meters, and the maximum trenching thickness is 1.5 meters. While achieving efficient construction, it maintains a low failure rate. In addition, the equipped 266 kW engine can save fuel for users and, in the long run, will save a large amount of construction costs for users.

The German Bauer Group is a world-renowned manufacturer of foundation engineering and drilling equipment and one of the world's most famous foundation engineering contractors. Its headquarters is located in Schrobenhausen, Bavaria, Germany, and it has a history of more than 200 years.
