近年来，四川省高速公路建设不断取得历史性突破，千百年来“蜀道难”的状况正在加快改变。截至2012年底，全省高速公路通车里程已达4334公里，建成和在建总里程已达6657公里，高速公路网正在加速形成。
当前，四川省高速公路进入新一轮集中建设攻坚关键时期，今年底全省高速公路通车里程将突破5000公里，到2017年底高速公路通车里程力争超过7000公里，建成和在建里程超过8500公里，实现所有市州府所在地通高速公路，同步打通20条进出川大通道，基本建成运输快捷、功能配套、覆盖面广的高速公路网络。
