“Excuse me, who knows what is HIV and AIDS?” Occupational safety and health lecturer Kristofine Itenbu asked the trainees.

“HIV and AIDS is an infectious disease.” Car driver Benson raised his hand and answered based on his understanding.

On August 11, at 8:30 a.m. local time in Namibia, the Namibia Airport Expressway Project Department of China Railway Seventh Group Zhengzhou Company organized local workers in the project department training room to carry out an “HIV Prevention and Occupational Rights Training Course.”

It is reported that AIDS is a highly prevalent infectious disease in Africa. 26% of Namibia's labor force has lost the ability to work due to AIDS, of which 80% of those infected are young adults. Namibian local laws and government labor departments require all enterprises to provide occupational safety and health education to employed workers. To this end, the company's Namibia project department attaches great importance to this and has hired professional lecturers to conduct training and education. The training content covers the definition of HIV/AIDS, common knowledge of transmission routes and basic prevention measures, the obligation of employers and trade unions to lead prevention, and the prohibition of employment discrimination against infected persons by employers and society.

In order not to affect on-site construction production, the project department conducted the training in three batches, training a total of 152 local black workers at a cost of 1.5 million Namibian dollars. The training not only enabled the black workers to have a correct understanding of their own AIDS prevention and their rights, but also enabled Chinese management personnel to have a deeper understanding of local laws and regulations on employed workers.
