On the 6th, the Yangtze River Water Resources Commission informed reporters: the main characteristics of the hydrological and rainfall conditions in the Yangtze River Basin from March to May this year are very similar to those of 1998. Comprehensive forecasts indicate that rainfall during the main flood season (June to August) in the Yangtze River Basin will be higher than the multi-year average for the same period, with some areas in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River exceeding it by more than 50%. A major flood in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River is a high-probability event this year, and the flood control situation is severe.

According to the report, the Yangtze River Basin entered the flood season early this year, 11 days earlier than usual. Inflow is high, with inflow in all sections of the basin exceeding the 30-year average. Base water levels are high; in late March and early April, the control stations on the main stream of the middle and lower reaches successively exceeded the water levels of the same period in 1998 and set new historical highs. The flood situation is urgent: from March to May, 36 rivers in the basin experienced floods exceeding warning levels, with the maximum exceedance exceeding 3 meters; since entering June, 17 hydrological stations on 14 rivers in the basin have experienced floods exceeding warning levels, with an exceedance of 0.88 meters.

Industry insiders say that in the early stages of flood and waterlogging disaster prevention, the construction of water conservancy and underground utility tunnels will accelerate, and related industries will benefit the most.
