Qualitative analysis methods mainly rely on engineering geological investigation to analyze the principal factors affecting slope stability, possible modes of deformation and failure, and the mechanical mechanisms of instability, thereby providing a qualitative description and explanation of the slope's stability condition and development trend.
  1. Natural (Genetic) History Analysis Method
Based on analysis of the geological environment of slope development, the various signs of deformation and failure throughout the slope's development history together with their basic patterns, and the factors influencing stability, this method traces the entire process of slope evolution and evaluates and predicts the overall condition, trend, and regional characteristics of slope stability.
  2. Engineering Analogy Method
This method essentially applies experience regarding the stability conditions and influencing factors of existing slopes to the stability analysis and design of similar slopes. Through analysis, it performs analogical analysis and judgment of the stability condition, development trend, and reinforcement design of the object under study.
  3. Graphical Method
The graphical method is in essence a simplified form of mathematical-physical analysis, such as the Taylor chart, stereographic projection method, solid proportional projection method, and Markland JJ projection method, among others.
