When will the section of the Zhengzhou Zhongzhou Avenue viaduct south of the Longhai Railway be open to traffic on the bridge deck? According to the Longhai Expressway project department, the bridge deck construction of the Zhongzhou Avenue viaduct over the Longhai Railway is expected to be completed by the end of June this year. By then, traffic on this section will run in six lanes in both directions on the bridge deck, while the existing ground-level road on Zhongzhou Avenue about 400 meters north of the Longhai Road viaduct will be closed for rainwater pipe culvert construction.
It is understood that the main structure of the Zhongzhou Avenue viaduct over the Longhai Railway completed its rotation construction in January this year. Subsequently, the project entered the construction of the bridge deck section and the connecting sections with the viaducts on both sides. At present, the bridge deck of the rotated section has entered the final surface-layer pouring stage, with asphalt paving expected to begin in early June; the connecting section on the north side of the bridge has completed bridge deck construction, with asphalt paving expected to be completed by the end of this month; the connecting section on the south side of the bridge is undergoing crash barrier construction, with asphalt paving expected to be completed in mid-to-late June.
After the Zhongzhou Avenue viaduct over the Longhai Railway is completed, vehicular traffic at this location will be moved from under the bridge to the bridge deck, and the lanes will change from the current narrowest point of four lanes in both directions to six lanes in both directions. By then, traffic on Zhongzhou Avenue heading toward the South Third Ring Road can pass directly over the bridge; the two ramps of the Longhai Viaduct from west to south and from east to south will also be put into use.
The project department head stated that after the main line of the Zhongzhou Avenue bridge over the Longhai Railway opens to traffic, the existing ground-level road on Zhongzhou Avenue about 400 meters north of the Longhai Road viaduct will be temporarily closed. After all construction is completed in the future, the "choke point" of Zhongzhou Avenue over the Longhai Railway will allow traffic both on and under the bridge, and congestion at this location will be greatly alleviated.
