At 10:30 on May 7, when the patrol team led by Ding Hongxiang from the Qujing Brigade was inspecting the downbound line of the Shanghai-Kunming Expressway (Qusheng Section) at k2210+250 meters, they found the slope on fire. With strong winds and raging flames, if not extinguished in time, more grass and trees would be burned, and the smoke from the fire seriously endangered the driving safety of the expressway, easily causing traffic accidents. In the critical situation, team leader Ding Hongxiang immediately signaled to pull over and arranged for team members to report the situation to the brigade duty room.
      Aided by the wind, the fire quickly spread to both ends, with flames devouring the grass around the expressway. Seeing that the flames were about to reach the landscaping trees, the consequences would be unimaginable. The patrol personnel first used the fire extinguishers carried in the vehicle to fight the fire at the ignition points closer to the expressway. Because the fire was relatively large, the two fire extinguishers were quickly used up. Ding Hongxiang then used tree branches to beat the flames and isolate flammable materials from the fire. At 11:00, through the joint efforts of the patrol team, the fire was completely extinguished, preventing a major fire from occurring.
