Taiping North Road in Nanjing is a landscape avenue lined with dawn redwoods. After the opening of Metro Line 3, the entire landscape avenue was renovated and upgraded. At the Wenchang Bridge intersection, a traffic light has now been installed. Most people crossing the road are students from Southeast University, because the east and west sides of Taiping North Road are the two campuses of Southeast University.
　　A Southeast University student said that the waiting time at this traffic light is a bit long. During the morning rush hour before school, there are especially many people. Some buses drive relatively close to the curb, and if you are not careful, you can get bumped or hit. If there were an overpass, it would be more convenient. When Nanjing Metro Line 3 was under construction, a pedestrian overpass that facilitated students and nearby residents was demolished. Before the overpass was demolished, the Nanjing Metro Construction Headquarters promised that after Metro Line 3 opened, a crossing with the same function would be restored.
　　It is understood that at the beginning of construction, two plans were designed: one was an underground crossing, and the other was an above-ground overpass. However, due to the plot conditions near Wenchang Bridge, it was not very suitable for building an underground crossing. Therefore, after repeated deliberation and comparison, the Architectural Design and Research Institute of Southeast University finally settled on the above-ground overpass plan. From the perspective of the landscape impact on the entire road, an underground crossing is obviously superior to an above-ground overpass. For the ultimately chosen overpass plan, the design unit also considered landscape coordination. At the same time, this will also be Nanjing's first masted cable-stayed pedestrian overpass.
　　A designer from the Architectural Design and Research Institute of Southeast University Co., Ltd. introduced that in terms of the overall shape, Taiping North Road is a dawn redwood avenue, and the dawn redwood trees all have vertical trunks, so this cable-stayed overall structure was adopted, with many vertical poles, which is more coordinated with the surrounding environment.
　　The construction site manager of the Taiping North Road Pedestrian Overpass Project of China Railway No. 4 Engineering Group Co., Ltd. introduced that there will be a lighting beam project on the overpass, especially the night view, which will look very beautiful. Passage will also be very convenient. Pedestrian stairs are designed, so pedestrians can walk, and ordinary bicycles and electric bikes can also pass. There is also a dedicated passage for disabled people.
　　Starting tonight, on the sidewalks on the east and west sides of the Wenchang Bridge intersection, the construction unit will begin to set up enclosures. The enclosed area is mainly on the sidewalk. The deepest excavation will reach 36 meters. The metro tunnel is located at the green island, 5 meters away from the metro tunnel. Although relatively deep pile foundations will be constructed, the construction manager stated that with a straight-line distance of more than 5 meters, it can be guaranteed that the pile foundation construction will not affect the safety of the metro tunnel and the daily operation of the metro. Considering the complex underground pipelines on Taiping North Road, some underground pipelines with significant impact will be relocated if necessary. The entire overpass will strive to be completed in October this year and put into use before the end of the year. After the overpass is put into use, the traffic light at the intersection will also be removed.
