According to Hong Kong's Ta Kung Pao, it is reported that 7 piles of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Hong Kong project need to be redone. In response to an inquiry, the Hong Kong Highways Department confirmed that of the more than 1,000 large-diameter piles already constructed for the bridge, 7 need to be redone to replace the original piles, with costs borne by the contractor.

The Highways Department pointed out that the Hong Kong project of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge is huge and complex, involving a large number of deep and large-diameter piles. If, during construction, problems are found with construction procedures or material quality that cause the relevant piles to fail to meet contract requirements, after discussion with consulting engineers and on-site engineering personnel, the contractor will generally propose to take corresponding remedial measures at its own expense, such as redoing another replacement pile in situ, or constructing several additional piles near the pile location to replace the original piles, so as to meet the original structural design requirements.

The department continued that these self-funded measures proposed by the contractor will be carried out under their supervision after approval by the consulting engineers and their on-site engineering personnel in accordance with the mechanisms in the engineering contract, to ensure that pile quality meets contract requirements, stressing that this situation is not uncommon in general pile engineering.
