On January 12, at the repair site of the old section of Ziyang Tuo No.1 Bridge, workers were installing thick steel plates onto steel frames surrounding the bridge piers. According to reports, three stone piers of the bridge are underwater, and due to 40 years of immersion, the portions below the water surface have suffered severe erosion damage. The repair project adopts the "steel sheet pile cofferdam" water-retaining method: after pumping out the water to expose the piers and their bases, waterproof materials are used to wrap the stone piers to prevent erosion. The "steel sheet pile cofferdam" method, used to repair and reinforce bridge piers located more than ten meters underwater, is being used for the first time in Sichuan.

At present, the reinforcement of all bridge arches, cleaning and renovation of the bridge deck, and other work have been completed. The bridge guardrails are also nearly installed, leaving only the reinforcement of the three piers. Reinforcing each pier takes 2 months, and the steel sheet pile cofferdam for the first pier is about to be completed. The bridge repair project is expected to be fully completed in June this year.
