Recently, the groundbreaking ceremony for the newly built Zhangjiakou-Datong High-Speed Railway was held in Datong City, Shanxi Province, marking that the project has entered the substantive construction stage.
It is understood that the new Zhangjiakou-Datong high-speed railway line starts from Huai'an Station on the Zhangjiakou-Hohhot high-speed railway currently under construction, passes through Tianzhen County and Yanggao County in Shanxi Province, and ends at Datong City. The railway is classified as a high-speed railway, with a designed operating speed of 250 km/h. The newly built main line has a total length of 141.5 kilometers and includes four stations: Huai'an, Tianzhen, Yanggao South, and Datong South. The planned transport capacity is 45 million passengers per year. The project construction period is four years, with an estimated total investment of 18.05 billion yuan, of which 17.2 kilometers are within the territory of Zhangjiakou City.
After the project is completed, it will effectively connect the Beijing-Hohhot passenger dedicated line and the Datong-Xi'an passenger dedicated line, forming a passenger transport network in northern North China. It is a fast passenger transport corridor for exchanges between western Inner Mongolia, northern Hebei, and Shanxi, Shaanxi, and the southwestern region. It is an auxiliary corridor for exchanges between the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and Northeast China and the central and southern Shanxi region. It is also an important railway transport corridor for building connectivity along the Silk Road Economic Belt, and is of great significance to the regional economic development of Zhangjiakou and Datong.
