On the morning of December 31, 2014, with the smooth start of drilling by the rig at the right-side collision prevention pier of the Anqing Shizikou Bridge and Connecting Road Project, the project officially kicked off.

As the Shimen Lake waterway regulation project in Anqing City is underway, the waterway after regulation will be a restricted Class III waterway. The original Shizikou Bridge cannot meet this navigation standard. To improve its navigation standard, the old bridge needs to be demolished and rebuilt. The new Shizikou Bridge is located about 15 meters south of the old bridge site, with a total length of 226.75 meters. The superstructure of the bridge adopts a 46+70+46 meter variable cross-section continuous box girder structure. The main bridge piers adopt solid piers connected to pile caps, with bored cast-in-place pile group foundations beneath the pile caps; the transition piers adopt cap beams with double columns connected to pile caps, with bored cast-in-place pile foundations beneath; the approach bridge piers adopt cap beams connected to pier columns, with bored cast-in-place pile foundations beneath. Abutment No. 0 adopts a pile foundation connected to a bent cap, and Abutment No. 8 adopts a gravity-type abutment body connected to a spread foundation. All pile foundations are friction piles.

During construction, the old bridge will be retained as a temporary construction bridge and will be demolished after the new bridge is completed and opened to traffic. The project will be completed and delivered for use before the end of 2015.
