According to the UK's Daily Mail on August 27, British architectural design firm SURE Architecture recently proposed a plan to build a "vertical city" in London. The building could accommodate thousands of residents and would also include supporting facilities such as schools, shopping malls and parks.
SURE Architecture has named the "vertical city" "Endless City." In fact, it is a tower-style skyscraper. It has a complete ecosystem, including residential areas, entertainment areas, schools, office areas, shopping malls, parks and other supporting facilities. Different areas of the building will be connected to one another through a series of bridges and passageways, helping to increase communication and interaction.
Although "Endless City" is still only at the design stage, SURE Architecture has already selected a site near London, though it is still uncertain whether the project can enter the construction phase. The design has already won first prize in a skyscraper & super skyscraper competition. SURE Architecture says "Endless City" will save a large amount of space in densely populated cities, expanding upward into the sky rather than outward as in the past.
It is also unclear exactly how tall "Endless City" could be, but preliminary estimates suggest it could reach 300 meters, comparable to the Shard, London's tallest building.
SURE Architecture says the building's shape will maximize the use of passive energy and reduce the need for artificial lighting, cooling and heating. Every floor will have plazas and public spaces.
