According to a report on the website of Russia's Komsomolskaya Pravda on the 23rd, as an important part of the 'New Moscow' plan, the construction of the new Moscow metro line is particularly noteworthy.

'New Moscow' is located in the southwest of Moscow, covering a total area of 1.48 million hectares, and is attached to Moscow's 2012 urban expansion plan under the name 'Greater Moscow'. The goal of the 'New Moscow' plan is to expand Moscow's urban area twofold. The project includes large-scale regional development, the establishment of new economic growth centers, redevelopment of the road network, modernization of transport infrastructure, and the creation of more parks and recreational spaces. This project can not only enhance Moscow's efficiency and improve environmental quality, but also stimulate employment through improved modern social infrastructure, provide quality opportunities for substantial foreign investment, and thus strengthen Russia's economic cooperation with investor countries.

In the near future, a 14.9-kilometer metro line, researched and constructed by foreign experts, will be built along the Kaluga Highway in Moscow. This is the core part of 'New Moscow'. The Russian Moscow Engineering Design Company, China Railway Construction Corporation Limited, and the China International Fund have signed a cooperation agreement to jointly build this metro line. This brand-new metro line will introduce advanced international technology and also create considerable employment opportunities for Moscow.

'We are willing to have the Chinese side build this line, as well as other facilities at the terminal station. The Chinese side can sell these facilities that they have successfully built and delivered for use,' said Moscow Deputy Mayor Marat Khusnullin.

The line to be constructed by the Chinese side is valued at 2 billion US dollars. More than half of the project is located in the old urban area in the southwest of Moscow, and the remainder is in 'New Moscow'. Among them, Novodoryovskaya Street Station, Academician Oparin Street Station, and Governor Tyulenev Street Station are all named after the streets where the metro stations are located. Mamyri Station, Kommunarka Station, and Stolbovo Station are named after the villages and towns near the metro stations. The average distance between every two metro stations is about 3 kilometers, and the shortest distance between two metro stations—Kommunarka Station and Stolbovo Station—is about 1.5 kilometers. The line is expected to be completed in 2017.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said: 'Only China has built more metro lines than Moscow.' When discussing Moscow's future development strategy, Sergei Sobyanin stated that the plan is to strive to increase the length of Moscow's metro lines to 1.5 times the current length by 2020.
