Abnormal wear on wheeled construction machinery tires caused by various factors during use is a headache for many drivers. Causes include tire pressure being too high or too low, overloaded operation, poor four-wheel alignment, rough operation due to unskilled driving techniques, unreasonable tire selection and installation, and damage from external hard objects, among others. To effectively avoid such abnormal wear, we need to do the following work well:
■ First, strictly comply with tire inflation standards. After inflation, check whether all parts leak air, and regularly check tire pressure to ensure it meets standards.
Develop the habit of using a pressure gauge to measure pressure; do not judge by eye. Ensure that wheeled construction machinery tires have a certain elasticity so that, when bearing the specified load, their deformation does not exceed the specified range, ensuring good stability and comfort during driving. Spare tires should be inflated to a relatively higher pressure to prevent them from losing air over time.
■ Second, correctly select and install wheeled construction machinery tires, and use corresponding inner tubes according to tire specifications.
Tires mounted on the same machine should be of the same brand, same structure, and same performance. If this cannot be achieved, tires of the same brand, same specification, same tread pattern, and same type should be mounted on the same axle; when replacing with new tires, the whole vehicle or the same axle should be replaced together; for directional tread tires, install them according to the specified rolling direction; when replacing with new tires, new tires should be mounted on the front wheels and repaired tires on the rear wheels. To ensure driving safety, retreaded tires must not be used as steering wheels (front wheels).
■ Third, regularly rotate wheeled construction machinery tires.
After a vehicle has been driven for a period of time, the front and rear tires differ in fatigue and wear, so they should be rotated promptly according to regulations. There are two tire rotation methods: the cross method and the circular method. The cross rotation method is suitable for vehicles frequently driven on roads with greater crown, while the circular rotation method is suitable for vehicles frequently driven on relatively flat roads.
■ Fourth, control the temperature of wheeled construction machinery tires.
During driving, tires generate heat due to friction and deformation, raising the internal temperature and pressure of the tires. When tire temperature is very high, do not release air to reduce pressure, and even more, do not pour water on the tires to cool them, so as to avoid accelerating tire damage. Stop and rest in a shaded place, and continue driving only after the tire temperature has dropped. When stopping en route and arriving at the site, develop the habit of safe coasting stops. Choose flat, clean, and oil-free ground for parking, and every tire should rest steadily on the ground. Especially when the vehicle is loaded overnight, pay more attention to choosing a good parking location, and if necessary, jack up the rear wheels. When the vehicle is out of use for a long time, support the frame with wooden blocks to reduce the load on the tires; when tires have no air pressure, they must not be parked on the ground as they are; the wheels should be jacked up.
■ Fifth, wheeled construction machinery tires should be kept away from sunlight, oils, acids, flammable materials, and chemically corrosive substances.
All tires should be stored indoors in a cool, dry, and dark place. Tires should be placed upright; laying them flat, stacking them, or hanging them by a rod through the center is strictly prohibited. Storage period must not exceed three years. If inner tubes need to be stored separately, they should be filled with an appropriate amount of air and must not be folded, laid flat, or stacked. When not stored separately, they should be placed inside outer tires and inflated appropriately.
In addition, in severe cold regions in winter, due to low temperatures, the rubber of wheeled construction machinery tires becomes more brittle and less elastic. When the vehicle is driven again after overnight parking or long periods of standing, start off by slowly releasing the clutch pedal for a smooth start, drive at low speed for the first few kilometers, and drive normally after the tire temperature rises. If the vehicle has been parked on ice for a period of time, the contact areas may freeze; start off with extra care to prevent the tread from being torn. When the vehicle is parked outdoors for a long time in severe cold regions, to prevent the tires from freezing to the ground, place wooden boards or sand under the tires.
