After two weeks of intensive and orderly construction preparation, the Northwest Line Expressway Project in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia, undertaken by the Second Company of China Railway 16th Bureau Group, held a warm yet simple commencement ceremony on the morning of March 23. Luo Yongzhong, Deputy Commander of the Northeast Command of China Railway 16th Bureau Group and concurrently Director of the Hohhot Office, Qiu Jun, Commander of the Hohhot Northwest Line Expressway Project, and representatives from the owner, supervision and other units attended the ceremony. At 10:28, upon the order, the commencement order was issued amid the huge roar of a rotary drilling rig, and the first pile of the Hulunbuir–Zhelimu Road Overpass on the North Line began drilling.
The project is located on the West Second Ring Road and North Second Ring Road within the urban area of Hohhot, Inner Mongolia, and is divided into two sections: the West Line and the North Line. The company undertakes the West Line (K6+100-K11+290.419), with a total length of 5.190 km, and the North Line (K6+245-K9+900), with a total length of 3.655 km. It mainly includes: the Hulunbuir–Zhelimu Road Overpass, the Yanzhan West Road Overpass, the Bayannur North Road Overpass, the K10+409 Planned Road Bridge, the widening of 3 existing small bridges, the reinforcement of the Wulisha River Bridge, and 9 pedestrian overpasses.
Adhering to the work approach of rapid mobilization, rapid settlement, rapid construction launch, and creating a brand project, since mobilization on March 8, under the leadership of Project Manager Qi Yongli and Li Shiyao, Party Working Committee Secretary and Executive Deputy Manager, the participating personnel have seized every moment and worked beyond capacity, devoting themselves to the work with the spirit of striving to be first. While selecting sites and settling in, they intensified construction preparation. Project department leaders divided responsibilities and led personnel from relevant departments to contact and establish friendly cooperative relations with nearly 20 departments, including the Hohhot owner, design institute, transportation, landscaping bureau, and power bureau, as well as village committees along the route. Taking land acquisition and demolition as a breakthrough, they quickly solved the problem of relocating the 1,000-meter central greenbelt within the overpass bridge area, successfully transplanting more than 300 mountain peach trees, 120 elm trees, 112 rose bushes, and some landscape tree species. At the same time, they carried out above-ground and underground pipeline surveys within the section; completed technical briefings for bridge pile foundations in the area, traverse re-survey and densification for the West and North Lines, team allocation, material procurement, equipment dispatch, line fencing installation, on-site mud pit excavation, and rebar cage cutting and other construction preparations, laying a solid foundation for the full launch of project construction.
