Russia's 2013 Machinery and Equipment Imports Down 2.2% Year-on-Year

Statistics from the Russian Federal Customs Service show that from January to November 2013, Russia's machinery and equipment imports amounted to US$139.22 billion, down 2.2% year-on-year, of which US$126.54 billion was imported from non-CIS countries, mainly energy and special equipment, construction machinery, ships and aircraft, etc., while US$12.68 billion was imported from CIS countries.

The main reasons for the import decline were the drop in domestic investment activity in Russia (in 2013, Russia's fixed asset investment grew by only 2.5%, far below the average annual growth rate of 7% in the previous three years), a reduction in construction projects, and the slow renewal of agricultural machinery and road construction machinery, etc.
