As the dawn of the Chinese New Year spread across the land, XCMG's 9th QAY650 all-terrain crane marched with steady steps into the vast Ningxia Plain to its new home at Ningxia Lanyue Crane Co., Ltd. As the largest-tonnage all-terrain crane in the Ningxia region, it truly embodies Ningxia Lanyue's corporate philosophy of “having what others don't, and being better than others where they do.”

This is the 9th QAY650 all-terrain crane sold by XCMG. It not only features the industry's longest seven-section telescopic boom (reaching 92m when fully extended), but also adopts a series of mature emerging technologies, including a new modular counterweight and cylinder self-lifting attachment mechanism, research and application of a third support for the luffing jib, a new eight-axle chassis, and a multi-axle multi-mode steering system. It is the most popular among the many best-selling cranes launched by XCMG in 2013.

Since rolling off the line in early 2013, the XCMG QAY650 all-terrain crane has been busy on various projects across China: from the Qingshan Railway Bridge project in Hongshan District, Wuhan, to the naphtha tower and flash tower hoisting project of China Chemical Engineering Ninth Construction Co., Ltd., and then to the hoisting of more than 30 1.5 MW wind turbines at the Guiyang Wind Farm in Guizhou Province. Time and again, the QAY650's near-perfect performance has thoroughly impressed its users.

In January 2014, Ningxia was bitterly cold, with a large temperature difference between day and night; even the average daytime temperature was around minus ten degrees Celsius. Facing such harsh conditions, would the newly arrived QAY650 struggle to adapt?

On the morning of the 5th, the XCMG QAY650 all-terrain crane raised its boom against the wind and arrived at the construction site of the Shenhua Ningxia Coal 4 million t/a coal indirect liquefaction project. The first task was a high-pressure flare water seal tank weighing about 122 tons. After arriving at the designated location, the XCMG QAY650 performed a series of maneuvers with ease, including extending its outriggers and raising the main boom. After confirmation by the engineering and technical personnel, the XCMG QAY650 finally used a 35-meter main boom, 177-ton configuration, and superlift mode to smoothly and quickly lift the huge tank to the designated position at a working radius of 12 meters.

Over the next three days, the XCMG QAY650, together with a QAY300 all-terrain crane, hoisted and positioned three other giant high-pressure flare knockout drums weighing about 300 tons. In just about ten days, from arriving in the customer's hands to successively lifting four tanks, the XCMG QAY650 all-terrain crane completely won over all employees of Ningxia Lanyue Crane Co., Ltd. with its safety, efficiency, speed, and strong adaptability.
