This year, the region's water conservancy departments will accelerate construction of the five interconnected project areas for urban and rural drinking water safety in Xiji and Pengyang in the south-central region, enabling 534,000 people to drink safe and clean water. They will complete 28 centralized water supply projects, including the Mahuangshan project in Yanchi County, to ensure that by 2015 the problem of unsafe drinking water for urban and rural residents across the region is basically solved. At the same time, focusing on the improvement of one million mu of saline-alkali land in northern Yinchuan, the construction of high-standard farmland, and the promotion of efficient water-saving irrigation, they will vigorously develop farmland water conservancy. They will complete the treatment of 56 kilometers of the Qingshui River and Kushui River reaches and 29 small and medium-sized rivers including Dafenggou, and the reinforcement of the remaining 26 general small dangerous reservoirs, accelerate the construction of the flood control system on the eastern foothills of the Helan Mountains, launch the construction of mountain flood disaster prevention projects, and raise the flood control standards of important cities and river reaches.

    In terms of major engineering construction, the main focus is to accelerate the construction of the south-central urban and rural drinking water safety project, implement the main trunk pipeline and southern suburb water plant project in Yuanzhou District and the interconnected main pipeline project in Pengyang County; accelerate the continued supporting facilities and water-saving renovation of the Qingtongxia, Shapotou, and Guhai irrigation districts, start construction of projects such as the dam raising of the second phase of the Yayadang Reservoir in Ningdong, build the Ningdong backup water supply pipeline, and implement the construction of water supply projects for parks such as the Yinchuan Ecological Textile Industrial Park.
