The proposed new Shaoyang Wugang Airport will mainly serve the “six counties and one city” in western Shaoyang City. It will help improve the layout of civil airports and the comprehensive transportation system in the province, improve external transportation conditions in western Shaoyang, promote the development of tourism resources, and drive the coordinated economic and social development of Wugang. The airport project involves a total investment of 1.00192 billion yuan and is planned to start construction at the end of this year, with completion acceptance and test flights scheduled for December 2015. At present, all preparations for construction are in full swing, and the test section is expected to start construction by the end of the month.

The coordination meeting required that the commitment to completion acceptance and test flights in 2015 has already been made, and that this commitment must be turned into work motivation and fulfilled with redoubled efforts; work must be grounded in the present while keeping the long term in view, and all tasks must be advanced solidly. The entire work schedule from now on can only be moved forward, not delayed, and all work stages must be planned with the idea of moving ahead. At the same time, work should be carried out in a targeted manner, and full efforts must be made to tackle difficulties. Great efforts must be made to obtain funding support from higher authorities; the existing design and planning must be improved with an appropriate degree of foresight, and construction management must be effectively strengthened. The airport construction project must be developed into a efficiently operating project, a high-quality demonstration project, and a model integrity project; the development plan for the airport economy around the airport must be coordinated and planned. In conjunction with the airport master plan, regulatory detailed plans should be formulated for the areas surrounding the airport. An airport economy development zone centered on Wugang Airport should be well planned and designed.
