这台盾构机开挖直径为6.3米，总推力3600吨，主机长度9.5米，整机长度约为80米，整机重量约为450吨。主要适用于地下水少，渗透系数较小的粘性地层、砂性地层和砂砾土层，通过精确控制开挖舱的渣土排量，来保持开挖舱的土体压力，维护开挖面的相对稳定性。
据了解，土压平衡式盾构机曾在沈阳地铁和北京地铁施工中立下“汗马功劳”，是我国地铁隧道开采中最通用的设备。
这次根据用户当地的环境条件，北方重工为广东水电二局股份生产的这台盾构机采用了土压平衡加压技术，特殊的刀盘设计能够适应广州、深圳地区软土、软岩、上软下硬底层的施工掘进。
