该工程位于北京市朝阳区广渠路，总建筑面积11.4万平方米，中标造价近6亿元，地上10层，地下2层，包括档案库房、档案技术用房、能容纳200人的会议厅和能容纳500人的展览厅等。工程计划2013年11月25日开工，计划竣工日期为2017年2月2日。
建成后的北京市档案馆新馆将展现“档案安全保管基地、爱国主义教育基地、档案利用服务中心、政府信息公开查阅中心、电子文件管理中心”五位一体功能，成为北京的新名片和独特的人文景观。
