Learn How to Maintain and Use the Rotary Drilling Rig Power Head
Learn how to maintain and use the rotary drilling rig power head. A rotary drilling rig is a construction machine suitable for hole-forming operations in foundation engineering. It is mainly suitable for construction in soil layers such as sand, cohesive soil, and silty soil, and is widely used in various foundation construction applications such as cast-in-place piles, diaphragm walls, and foundation reinforcement. Today, the editor will share power head maintenance with you. First, we will explain the methods for replacing the lubricating oil in the rotary drilling rig power head, then discuss the steps for inspecting and replacing the spline gear oil in the power head, hoping to provide some help to fellow industry members. 1. Replacing the Lubricating Oil in the Rotary Drilling Rig Power Head

1. Remove the inspection cover located beneath the power head drive device.
2. Remove the drain hose from the retainer on the upper frame so that the hose end faces the container.
3. Use a universal joint with a socket extension to loosen the drain valve and drain the oil into an appropriate container.
4. Tighten the drain valve. Hang the drain hose on the retainer, ensuring the hose end faces upward.
5. When replacing the lubricating oil in the rotary drilling rig power head, remove the dipstick.
6. Add the specified amount of oil through the dipstick tube.
7. Keep the oil level between the top of the dipstick and the dipstick mark.
2. Inspecting and Replacing the Power Head Spline Gear Oil
1. Frequently check the lubricating oil level inside the gearbox through the transparent glass of the gearbox inspection cover, and ensure that the oil level is not lower than two-thirds of the vertical height of the inspection glass. (The bearings inside the gearbox are lubricated by oil splashing. If the oil level is too low, the bearings will be poorly lubricated, which will reduce the service life of the equipment.) 2. When replacing the gear oil, first turn the power head gear oil drain plug to the lowest position to facilitate operation and oil drainage. 3. Remove the drain plug and oil level plug, and let the power head gear oil drain into an appropriate container. During draining, the power head gear may be slowly rotated as appropriate to facilitate oil drainage and complete removal of contaminants, but safety must be observed at this time; relevant personnel should stay away from the site while the gear is rotating. 4. Check the plugs and seals for integrity. If there is obvious wear or damage, replace them with new parts. 5. After the oil has been completely drained, install the plugs. 6. Loosen the hydraulic hose connector on the upper part of the power head that connects to the accumulator, taking care to keep the connector clean. Add lubricating oil (No. 220 heavy-duty industrial gear oil) into the gearbox through this connector hole while observing the oil level through the inspection glass. Add oil until it is above two-thirds of the glass height, but do not fill it completely. If filled completely, it will cause leakage from the power head seal, allowing hydraulic oil or water to enter the gearbox, which may contaminate the gearbox. 7. After completing the above steps, tighten the hose connector removed in step 5 and install the oil level plug. 8. Start the engine and let the power head gear run for several revolutions. 9. Stop the engine and check whether the oil level is above two-thirds of the inspection glass height.

Analysis of Why the Rotary Drilling Rig Will Not Start -- Machine Faults and Handling
Mechanical Faults
If inspection shows that there are no problems with the electrical circuit or the fuel circuit, then it may be a mechanical fault generated by the engine.
Generally, the probability of mechanical failure in a diesel engine is relatively low, but once a mechanical fault occurs, a major engine overhaul is required.
Common engine mechanical faults include cylinder scoring, bearing burning, and cylinder block damage, etc. Generally, engine mechanical faults have warning signs,
such as a sudden loss of power during normal operation, continuous black smoke, or abnormal noise during operation, etc.
Major Engine Overhaul
Mechanical faults mostly occur while the engine is running. The probability of mechanical faults occurring during cold starting is relatively low, and generally mechanical faults in drilling rig engines require lifting the engine for disassembly and repair.
For Chongqing rotary drilling rigs, it is recommended to find professional engine repair personnel for maintenance.
