On May 13, the construction site of the Xuejiawan (Zhangjiagedan) to Liuqingliang tourism expressway in Jungar Banner, Ordos City was bustling with roaring machinery and busy workers. Cutting of the road cutting, slope protection, drainage ditch construction, and gravel cushion paving... multiple procedures were advancing simultaneously, presenting a scene of bustling activity.

"This section of the route has a total length of 7.5 kilometers. Since resuming work on March 15 this year, we have mainly carried out earthwork, roadbed, protection, and drainage works. Currently, 53% of the total project volume has been completed," introduced Li Qiang, chief commander of the Xuejiawan to Chengpo tourism expressway project. "The first bid section is striving to be completed and opened to traffic by the end of August this year."

It is understood that the Xuejiawan to Chengpo tourism expressway project has a total length of 17.57 kilometers and is divided into two bid sections for construction. The Xuejiawan (Zhangjiagedan) to Liuqingliang section is 7.514 kilometers long, and the Liuqingliang to Chengpo section is 10.056 kilometers long.

At the construction site of the Xiaojiaoshaogou Bridge in the Liuqingliang to Chengpo section of the second bid section, the construction of bridge pile caps and pier columns is proceeding in an orderly manner. Rebar tying, formwork installation, and concrete pouring are being carried out simultaneously, with machinery and personnel working in coordination in a busy yet efficient manner.

"There are 11 bridges along the entire line. Currently, a total of 166 pile foundations have been completed, accounting for 99% of the total, and pile caps and pier columns are 42% complete. Among the precast box girders for the mainline bridges, 104 are designed as 30-meter box girders and 61 as 20-meter box girders. Of these, 17 30-meter precast box girders have been completed, accounting for 30.3% of the designed quantity," said Li Qiang.

Not only is the construction of key tourism highways in full swing, but rural road construction across the region is also showing an overall trend of acceleration. In 2026, Inner Mongolia plans to start construction on 5,000 kilometers of rural roads. According to statistics from the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Department of Transport, as of the end of April, a total of 103 rural road projects spanning 1,390 kilometers had started construction across the region, completing 27.8% of the annual task. Fixed asset investment of 481 million yuan was completed, a year-on-year increase of 67.01% (288 million yuan in the same period last year), completing 6.9% of the annual investment target.

"To promote early commencement and rapid construction of rural road projects, we began advancing work related to rural road engineering construction across the region at the beginning of the year, coordinating one by one with the 12 league cities to facilitate early project implementation," introduced a relevant person in charge of the Rural and Border Defense Highway Division of the Inner Mongolia Transport Development Center. They promptly track project progress, coordinate to resolve difficult and bottleneck issues, and ensure projects are put into use as early as possible, safeguarding safe and convenient travel for the broad masses of farmers and herdsmen.
