On December 6, the Ethiopia regional power transmission and transformation project undertaken by PowerChina's Sinohydro Bureau 1 successfully passed acceptance and was put into operation.
As a key project of Ethiopia's national grid upgrade plan, the project has attracted much attention from the local government since its launch. Its main scope includes the construction of two new substations and transmission lines. Since being put into operation, the project has significantly enhanced the region's power transmission capacity and supply stability, effectively alleviating power supply shortages along the route and providing solid energy support for local industrial development and livelihood improvement.
During construction, the construction team advanced localized management in depth. In key areas such as personnel recruitment and construction operations, local teams took the lead, with the localization rate of line construction and management personnel exceeding 95%, and their professional capabilities were enhanced through systematic training. At the same time, local building materials and resources were prioritized in procurement, which not only reduced logistics costs but also drove the development of related industries, creating significant economic benefits and employment opportunities. Leveraging their language and cultural advantages, the local teams efficiently resolved various complex on-site issues, reduced communication misunderstandings and cooperation barriers, and helped the company better integrate into the local society.
The successful commissioning of this project not only injects strong momentum into Ethiopia's national grid upgrade, but also, through high-level localized practices, deepens cooperation between the two countries in the field of infrastructure construction.
