Guided by the national "dual carbon" strategy, green development has become the core direction of the construction machinery industry. As a leading domestic enterprise in underground engineering equipment, Sunward has always actively practiced the concept that "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets," driving the industry's green transformation with electric and intelligent products.
Recently, in the expansion projects of the Rongwei Expressway and the Weilai Expressway in Shandong, Sunward's extended-range electric rotary drilling rigs SWDM520EE and SWDM320EE operated in multi-machine coordination, demonstrating the mature application and significant benefits of electric equipment in large-scale infrastructure projects through their outstanding environmental performance.

It is reported that since 2006, Sunward has been forward-looking in its layout of green and energy-saving technology R&D, continuously deepening its work in the field of electric products, and gradually building an electric product matrix covering multiple categories such as rotary drilling rigs, excavators, aerial work platforms, and rock drilling equipment. Among them, the SWDM520EE, as an industry-leading large-tonnage electric rotary drilling rig, features three power modes—plug-in, extended-range, and pure electric—and achieves intelligent autonomous regulation of the machine's overall energy and power, demonstrating excellent comprehensive performance in the Shandong Rongwei Expressway project.
The project manager introduced that even during 24-hour continuous operation with "people resting while machines keep running," the equipment maintained efficient and stable operation, effectively guaranteeing construction progress. Facing complex geological conditions with 3 meters of ordinary soil in the upper layer and 9 meters of strongly weathered and moderately weathered rock below, as well as pile hole construction with a diameter of 1.2 meters, the SWDM520EE consumed about 1,600 kWh of electricity during 24-hour operation in pure electric mode, reducing energy consumption costs by more than 70% compared with fuel equipment of the same class, with significant economic benefits.

In the Weilai Expressway expansion project, Sunward's SWDM320EE electric rotary drilling rig also performed excellently. When facing 5-10 meters of strongly weathered rock and 10-18 meters of moderately weathered rock strata, the equipment adopted an alternating drilling process using a sand-grabbing bucket and a core barrel, demonstrating good rock-entry adaptability and construction efficiency. In terms of power, the SWDM320EE supports dual-mode operation with extended-range and grid power; in extended-range mode, average fuel consumption is only 22 liters/hour, while in grid mode, average power consumption is about 40 kWh/hour, with outstanding energy-saving results.
The successful application of Sunward's extended-range electric rotary drilling rigs in Shandong expressway projects not only verified the reliability and economy of its products under complex working conditions, but also provided a replicable practical path for the green and intelligent upgrading of China's construction machinery industry. In the future, Sunward will continue to deepen its "intelligent, green, and high-end" approach, further improve its electric product portfolio, and help China's infrastructure construction achieve green and low-carbon development.
