On November 22, the No. 2 unit of the Zhejiang Tiantai Pumped Storage Power Station—a key project of the national 14th Five-Year Plan and the world's highest-rated-head (724 m) pumped storage power station under construction—successfully achieved a one-time successful startup on its first trial run, laying a solid foundation for the station to realize the "one unit in operation, one unit in standby" goal by the end of the year.
The Tiantai Pumped Storage Power Station is equipped with four reversible pump-turbine generator units, each with a unit capacity of 425,000 kW, and a total installed capacity of 1.7 million kW, making them the largest single-unit-capacity pumped storage units in China. During the startup preparation phase, the project team carried out a comprehensive pre-startup review of the units. During the startup process, on-site personnel monitored various data on computers and electrical panels in real time and closely tracked the operating status of the units. Meanwhile, through real-time online monitoring devices, they recorded key indicators such as rotational speed, vibration, runout, and bearing temperature, and completed the dynamic balance test, bearing test, and no-load test of the governor for the No. 2 unit. Throughout the process, they strictly adhered to the safety and quality red lines and successfully achieved the expected goals of "zero safety accidents and zero quality defects," with all operating data indicators performing well.
At present, the electromechanical installation team of the Tiantai Pumped Storage project under Sinohydro Bureau 14 Co., Ltd. is making every effort to advance the grid-connection tests of Units 1 and 2 and the subsequent installation of the units, providing a solid guarantee for the smooth realization of the station's goal of being put into operation for power generation by the end of the year.
