Recently, the Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of Anhui Province announced the list of 2025 Anhui Province "Huangshan Cup" high-quality engineering projects. As the highest award for construction engineering quality in Anhui Province, a total of 15 water conservancy projects won awards, 4 of which were undertaken by PowerChina: the Shushan Pumping Station Project of Section J005-1 (Water Conservancy Part) of the Jianghuai Communication Section of the Yangtze-to-Huaihe Water Diversion Project (Anhui Section); Section J006-1 of the Jianghuai Communication Section of the Yangtze-to-Huaihe Water Diversion Project (Anhui Section); the Zhanghu Station Project of Zhanghu Polder in Wangjiang County; and the Booster Pumping Station of Section 2 of the Longhekou Water Diversion Project.

Since PowerChina became associated with Anhui Province in the 1950s through its participation in Huai River regulation, it has actively engaged in the construction of the national water network, water diversion and supply, river basin flood control, ecological governance, and other projects. Winning the "Huangshan Cup" this time, PowerChina has once again earned industry-wide brand recognition through its strong technical capabilities, solid construction foundation, and integrated whole-industry-chain services, further demonstrating PowerChina's strength and responsibility as a "national team" in the water conservancy field.

Shushan Pumping Station Project of Section J005-1 (Water Conservancy Part) of the Jianghuai Communication Section of the Yangtze-to-Huaihe Water Diversion Project (Anhui Section)

The Yangtze-to-Huaihe Water Diversion Project is one of China's 172 major water conservancy projects for water conservation and supply. The Shushan Pumping Station hub project ranks first in scale among the eight major hubs of the Yangtze-to-Huaihe Water Diversion Project. It is responsible for raising the river water over the Jianghuai Watershed so that the water flows by gravity from south to north. The project integrates water supply, navigation, and ecological protection. It is Asia's largest mixed-flow pumping station in terms of installed flow capacity, capable of lifting 340 tons of river water by 12.7 meters per second—equivalent to filling an international-standard swimming pool on the fourth floor in six seconds. Faced with challenges such as expansive soil, slaking rock, and temperature control for mass concrete, the project team of Sinohydro Bureau 5 Co., Ltd. under PowerChina fought hard to overcome difficulties and created the engineering miracle of "river water climbing the ridge." During construction, the project has completed 11 scientific research projects including the "Research on Temperature Control Construction Technology for Super Mass Concrete," formed 6 construction methods, applied for 9 QC topics, obtained 10 national patents and 10 provincial- and ministerial-level construction methods, and received high recognition from the quality assessment team of the Ministry of Water Resources. Meanwhile, as a pilot project for the Ministry of Water Resources' digital twin river basin construction, the Shushan Pumping Station hub project has, through the digital twin platform, taken the lead in achieving intelligent monitoring and smart scheduling, creating a "cloud-based nerve center" for the Yangtze-to-Huaihe Water Diversion Project.

Section J006-1 of the Jianghuai Communication Section of the Yangtze-to-Huaihe Water Diversion Project

The project is located south of the Jianghuai Watershed and is China's largest cross-basin water diversion project under construction. It undertakes multiple tasks, including diverting water from the upper reaches of the lower Yangtze River and supplementing water to the middle reaches of the Huai River to improve the water ecology of Chaohu Lake and the Huai River. The project team of PowerChina Municipal Group gave full play to its outstanding construction capabilities, enabling the project to consistently rank at the top in various evaluations and assessments across the entire Yangtze-to-Huaihe Water Diversion Project. Among these, the "Cement-Modified Soil Replacement Construction Technology" won first place among the "Top Ten Quality Highlights" of the Yangtze-to-Huaihe Water Diversion Project, earning the project the honorary title of "National Worker Pioneer." Since trial water diversion and navigation began in December 2022, the project has operated well, with more than 5,000 vessels of various types passing through and over 10 million tons of goods transported.

Zhanghu Station Project of Zhanghu Polder in Wangjiang County

The project has a designed drainage flow of 105 cubic meters per second and is currently the largest drainage pumping station in Anqing City. Due to issues such as the large excavation area of the foundation pit and the location of the pumping station base slab in silty clay, the project team of PowerChina Municipal Group developed the "construction process for attached multi-adjacent-pile interlocking driving in relatively thick silt foundation" and the "construction device for adjusting concentricity with statically indeterminate horizontal and vertical devices," effectively ensuring the installation quality of the water pumps and improving operating efficiency. This resulted in 4 national utility model patents, multiple national-, provincial-, and ministerial-level construction methods and QC achievements, and the 2024 Anqing City Construction Project "Zhenfeng Cup" High-Quality Engineering Award. Since operation began, the project has pumped a total of 210 million cubic meters of lake water and successfully responded to the catastrophic rainstorm disaster in the Yangtze River Basin in 2024, greatly alleviating flood control pressure on 9 townships around the lake in Wangjiang County and 38 polders of over 1,000 mu each, achieving the goal of "drainage during floods, irrigation during droughts, and guaranteed flood control."

Booster Pumping Station Project of Section 2 of the Longhekou Water Diversion Project

The project is located in Feixi County, Hefei City, and mainly supplies water to Hefei City, with an annual water supply capacity of 120 million cubic meters. During construction, the project department of PowerChina Municipal Group developed and optimized construction devices according to local conditions, achieving efficient and precise installation of metal structures and other equipment and facilities. With its outstanding construction capabilities, it successively won the Anhui Province Water Conservancy Construction Project Standardized Construction Management Site, the Hefei City Municipal Engineering "Luzhou Cup" Award, and the First Prize in the Anhui Province Major Infrastructure Construction Project Meritorious Competition. As of September 2025, the pumping station units have operated for a cumulative 20,380 hours, and cumulative urban water supply has exceeded 100 million cubic meters, equivalent to the water volume of 7 West Lakes. The Longhekou Water Diversion Project is a key cross-regional water diversion project in the province, a demonstration project for cooperation in the Hefei metropolitan area, and a major livelihood project for building a "high-quality, multi-source, and sufficient" drinking water supply pattern for Hefei residents.

Next, PowerChina will continue to fulfill its responsibilities as a state-owned central enterprise, deepen the construction of its quality management system, increase technological innovation and R&D, adhere to high-quality contract performance, and support the construction of Anhui's modern water network during the "15th Five-Year Plan" period with high-quality services, providing strong support for local high-quality development and striving to build more benchmark projects that benefit people's livelihoods and ensure flood control and safety.
