On the afternoon of November 16, 2024, the inaugural meeting of the Remanufacturing Engineering Branch of the Guangdong Provincial Mechanical Engineering Society and the Guangzhou Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Society (hereinafter referred to as the Provincial and Municipal Mechanical Societies' Remanufacturing Engineering Branch) was successfully held at the Shipai Campus of Jinan University in Guangzhou. Professor Liu Yihua, Executive Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of the Guangdong Provincial Mechanical Engineering Society and the Guangzhou Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Society (hereinafter referred to as the Provincial and Municipal Mechanical Societies), Senior Engineer Guo Lianfen and Senior Engineer Mai Liju, Deputy Secretaries-General, Professor Qu Ting, Executive Director of the Management Committee of Jinan University's Zhuhai Campus and Chairman of the Provincial and Municipal Mechanical Societies' Logistics Engineering Branch, as well as representatives from Sun Yat-sen University, South China University of Technology, Jinan University, Guangdong University of Technology, Southern University of Science and Technology, Shenzhen University, Foshan University, Songshan Lake Materials Laboratory, the Institute of Intelligent Manufacturing of the Guangdong Academy of Sciences, the Institute of New Materials of the Guangdong Academy of Sciences, the Guangdong Institute of Corrosion Science and Technology Innovation, Huateng Green Building Materials Technology (Guangdong) Co., Ltd., Shenzhen Tianyue New Materials Co., Ltd., Midea Intelligent Manufacturing Research Institute, and other universities, research institutes, and enterprises attended the meeting. Professor Liu Yihua, Executive Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of the Provincial and Municipal Mechanical Societies, delivered a speech and read out the Letter on Approving the Convening of the Inaugural Meeting of the Remanufacturing Engineering Branch of the Guangdong Provincial Mechanical Engineering Society and the Letter on Approving the Inaugural Meeting of the Remanufacturing Engineering Branch of the Guangzhou Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Society. Researcher Wang Qiwei, Dean of the Institute of Advanced Wear-Resistant and Functional Materials of Jinan University, delivered a speech on behalf of the host Jinan University and the preparatory groups of the two branches, expressing sincere gratitude to the Provincial and Municipal Societies and all member units for their long-term care and support for Jinan University. He noted that in recent years the remanufacturing industry has become a key force driving sustainable industrial development, and that Guangdong, as a major manufacturing province, has not only provided valuable experience for the development of China's remanufacturing industry but also offered a broad stage for future industry innovation and technological progress. He pointed out that the purpose of this meeting is to advance the high-quality development of the Greater Bay Area's remanufacturing industry through new quality productive forces, and expressed the hope that all participants would work together to promote policy support and market expansion, facilitate the high-quality development of the remanufacturing industry, and enable this green manufacturing industry to shine even more brightly in the Greater Bay Area.

At this meeting, the member representatives unanimously approved the list of the chief scrutineer, scrutineers, and vote counters, and elected by ballot the first council of the Provincial and Municipal Mechanical Societies' Remanufacturing Engineering Branch. On behalf of the Provincial and Municipal Mechanical Societies and Chairman Qu Jinping, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Professor Liu Yihua extended warm congratulations on the establishment of the first council of the Provincial and Municipal Mechanical Societies' Remanufacturing Engineering Branch. He briefly introduced to the members and councils of the two branches attending the meeting the historical heritage of the Provincial and Municipal Mechanical Societies and their current organizational structure and work. He pointed out that the establishment of the Remanufacturing Engineering Branch fully reflects the Provincial and Municipal Mechanical Societies' focus on multidisciplinary (technical) and multi-field specialties and innovative thinking in welding, lasers, additive manufacturing, molds, and other areas, and expressed the hope that the two branches would take the establishment as an opportunity to further strengthen organizational development, make full use of the overall platform of the Provincial and Municipal Mechanical Societies, and leverage the industry advantages and technological aggregation advantages of the members of the Remanufacturing Engineering Branch. He suggested exploring various forms such as independent activities, cooperation between the two branches, cross-joint activities with relevant branches of the Provincial or Municipal Mechanical Societies, or cross-joint activities with other disciplines and industry organizations, to vigorously carry out disciplinary and technical exchanges. He emphasized the need to give full play to the core role of the Provincial Mechanical Society's Advanced Manufacturing Expert Service Base and actively carry out activities to help unit members, especially enterprise-type unit members, and the grassroots solve problems. He expressed the hope that the Provincial and Municipal Mechanical Societies' Remanufacturing Engineering Branch would fulfill its duties of "serving scientific and technological workers, serving innovation-driven development, serving the improvement of the scientific literacy of the whole people, and serving the scientific decision-making of the Party and the government," accelerate the development of new quality productive forces in the field of remanufacturing engineering, contribute wisdom and strength to Guangdong's taking the lead in advancing Chinese-style modernization, and make positive contributions to promoting Guangdong's high-quality development and the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The newly established Provincial and Municipal Mechanical Societies' Remanufacturing Engineering Branch reviewed and approved the working regulations of the two branches. The two branches, applied for by Jinan University as the lead unit and approved for establishment by the Provincial and Municipal Mechanical Societies, aim to unite the broad ranks of technical workers and managers engaged in remanufacturing engineering, strengthen academic exchanges and achievement transformation, promote the development of remanufacturing engineering technology in Guangdong Province and the cultivation of scientific and technological and management talent, and make positive contributions to social and economic development.

Researcher Wang Qiwei, the newly appointed Chairman of the Provincial and Municipal Mechanical Societies' Remanufacturing Engineering Branch, stated that under the leadership of the Provincial and Municipal Mechanical Societies, he would take the lead in fulfilling the duties of "serving scientific and technological workers, serving innovation-driven development, serving the improvement of the scientific literacy of the whole people, and serving the scientific decision-making of the Party and the government." He would do his utmost to fulfill the duties and mission of this new role, work hand in hand with everyone to further promote industry-university-research-application exchanges and cooperation, and strive to build Guangdong Province into a national and even global highland for remanufacturing engineering technology and innovation. He also shared his thoughts and plans for the future development of the branch from five aspects: strengthening industry standardization, promoting technological innovation and R&D, strengthening talent cultivation and team building, promoting international exchange and cooperation, and advancing policy advocacy and improvement of the industry development environment. He would strengthen communication and cooperation with member units, unite the forces of all parties, and jointly make new and greater contributions to promoting the leapfrog development of the remanufacturing engineering discipline and industry in Guangdong Province.

Subsequently, the 2024 Remanufacturing Engineering Academic Exchange Conference was held, chaired by Associate Researcher Ren Pan, Secretary-General of the Branch. Professor Wang Zhenmin, the newly appointed Vice Chairman of the Provincial and Municipal Mechanical Societies' Remanufacturing Engineering Branch, and Professor Shi Peijing of Foshan University delivered special academic reports entitled "Robot Underwater Remanufacturing Technology and Applications" and "Remanufacturing Development and Prospects in the Context of Large-Scale Equipment Renewal," respectively.
