At around 10 a.m. on October 1, the domestically developed super-large-diameter slurry shield machine "Pingshan East No. 2" was successfully launched, marking a new breakthrough in the construction of the Shenzhen-Shanwei High-Speed Railway and substantive new progress in this major project of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The Shenzhen-Shanwei High-Speed Railway starts at Xili Station in the Shenzhen hub, passes through Luohu District and Pingshan District of Shenzhen and Huizhou City, and extends to the Shenzhen-Shanwei Cooperation Zone, where it connects to Shenshan Station on the Guangzhou-Shanwei High-Speed Railway. The main line has a total length of 125.52 km, with a design speed of 250 km/h for the Shenzhen Xili to Luobei section and 350 km/h for the Luobei to Shenshan section. The line has six high-speed railway stations in total: Shenzhen Xili, Luobei, Pingshan, Huizhou South, Huidong and Shenshan.

For 66 km, the Shenzhen-Shanwei High-Speed Railway runs parallel to the existing Xiamen-Shenzhen High-Speed Railway at a small spacing, with a minimum horizontal separation of only 8.6 m, posing great construction difficulty and extremely high safety risk. As many as eight large-diameter shield machines with an excavation diameter of 14.33 m are being used simultaneously along the entire line to complete the task of driving 29.026 km of tunnels, forming the largest cluster of large-diameter shield tunnels in China.

Since the start of construction, the project has initially completed the first fully domestically developed BIM digital construction management system on the entire railway, and has vigorously promoted a number of "four new" technologies, including intelligent bridge-building equipment and digital intelligent shield machines. The project has completed standardized construction at the start of the works to a high standard and is currently in the stage of full-scale construction. Since December 6, 2023, the first shield machine, "Longgang No. 1," has completed 1.526 km of tunneling and is still tunneling.
